fuel econemy, std. stage 1 and stage 2
it seems that the car is at it's best at stage 1 when it comes to fuel econemy.
stage 2 , greens , 3bar, std. turbo should use more fuel.....
with the same kind of driving like on a highway would the car use more fuel than at stage 1 ???
I'm really interested in figuring out if it's gonna be more expensive to drive (under the same right foot load )
Cheers Kennert

if set up correctly, it should be the same.
to cruise at a given speed requires a given power to overcome the air and rolling resistance. to get that power, you need to mix the same amount of air and fuel. simple as that.
you only need to use more fuel to make more power if the map is correct

No the fuel economy will be very similar at cruise irrespective of what injector you use. We only use larger injectors to give us the potential for more power at higer boost levels. This does'nt mean the car runs rich everywhere else provided its mapped correctly.
However on cars that I know will be used primarily for track days I do tend to run them richer at cruise, but as a normal road car a greens conversion should be the same as standard when simply cruising.

hi ForeigneRS
I kind of thought the same thing; to do a x speed you need so much fuel no matter what,,, but that's theory, an other is real life
so why do you only do 250 miles in stage 2 ??
Your right foot welded to the floor ?

Ýeah...................Mr. Bush, but think about it, he has a lot of oil money
I think he can afford to run Grey injectors ALL day!
But when it comes down to it the base fuel map should still provide a good fuel econemy when running greens, that's good to know
Cheers Kennert

yeah, it should. but choose your mapper/chip supplier carefully
i'm also going to greens and 3 bar soon as i have the parts waiting. but can't decide whether it's worth buying a chip when i'm considering a SECS S8 (i would buy today if it came with a base map suitable for std t3, greens, 3 bar, std comp)

What chip would you recommend ?

you should get the secs S8
I have read that simon will do a map for greens, 3bar, ect.
I thought it was incl. right away..but I guess not from what you are writing!
It's SO cool the secs S8
I would like one but is not cheap (cheap compaired to other ECU's).
Cheers KL

Testing the future
i don't know. to be honest there are a lot of dodgy chips about. for the cost of them, i would get one from either karl or stu. do you pay 150 quid for one of someone that you trust, or do you pay 50 quid for an unknown and risk a massively more expensive engine rebuild? it would be the trusted route for me.
also, i have a wideband lambda sensor and meter in my downpipe, and an egt probe in each of the 4 exhaust manifold pipes so that i can see what's going on. am planning on getting a det sensor setup in the near future soonas well, so that i should be able to see and hear what's going on. although i trust a chip from karl or stu, there are many unknowns like compression ratio (i had to have my cylinder skimmed recently), a lightly ported head, quality of fuel (i always use shell v-power 100 RON) etc, etc that mean that an off the shelf chip from them may not be entirely suitable. i want to be able to check it under all conditions (summer/winter, slow/fast etc).
ideally, i want a live map. but i don't want that done until i've got a programmable engine management that i can have a go at by myself. i don't want to have to get it redone everytime i change something in the future, like new turbo, different injectors or whatever. the SECS S8 looks like the best option at the moment, although it would be a much more attractive option if they were sold with some base maps - obviously with no guarantee on the maps.
as for going stg 1 or 2, i can't really advise you. mine was stg1 when i bought it, so i have never had a std one to improve upon.

you're right in one should be carefull about buying a chip from a stranger
You really clever in have a probe in each of the exhaust ports
I only have a narrow band lambda and a home made LED readout in the car.
I think Simon will do a base map for greens, It would boost the sale I'm sure.
Cheers KL

Got 28 mpg out of mine on a good motorway run at 80-90 mph,on greens.
Worked out at 300 miles on Ł40.Short runs to work it does 100 miles on Ł20!
As said earlier if you can resist bootin it all the time there not bad.
Works out near enough the same overall to when it was on a stg1 set-up.
