My blow out yesterday evening!
Going down the road dropping my brother off doing 30ish on acceleration...BANG...
Car goes all wobbly....thought i'd broke something big-time...
Looked at the rear tyre and it's had a massive blow-out
Managed to limp it home doing 10mph (About 2 miles).......took it off a while ago to get a new one fitted and what i saw quite scared me!
Inside tyre wall completely fooked.
lucky i wasn't giving it any beans.......

How many years have I ben saying how shit it was for your car to be that low at the back ?
You only have yourself to blame, as that is totally and utterly self inflicted .
Lucky for you, no harm no foul, but just think what COULD have happened at 150mph . Perhaps you'll listen now ?

Most of that damage to tyre was done by driving on it.As the wheel is cutting through it.Had the same thing happen to me except it didnt bow out just went down.NOTE to all lowered cossie drivers CHECK INSIDE EDGE OF REAR TYRES REGULARLY (SPL)

20K+ Super Poster.
my tyre looked EXACTLY the same after the blowout at bedford.
i assumed it'd been catching on the coilover spring platform as it loks like its rubbed away. are you saying that its possible that this damage was caused by driving on it after it blew out (was a good half a lap 1.5miles?) as im stumped as to how i could a missed a tyre THAT fucked

Lucky escape there - as you said, could have been a lot worse... if for example it had happened on the way to mc'd's at the meet on Tuesday
I think the key is to check tyre wear regularly - unbelievable how quick they can chop the insides out (mine did the new set of A539's in in a year and a half) and you know how carefully I drive
Mine is the standard height too, with geometry spot on. Mine is shimmed at the back which has helped wear on the rear, but the fronts still wear very quickly
You wanna replace those toyo's with yoko parada's - the grip is superb!!

Had this happen to me a lot when my car used to stit for ages unused. Had one tyre go at 80mph on the front right. Wasn't too bad really, with low profiles they seems to run flat reasonably well.

How can anyone say that looks bad?
How that tyre looks will give you no indication as to the nature of the blowout.
Practically every tyre that blows out looking like that will only blow out on a very small area - then the wheel itself acts like a knife as it rolls with all that weight on a flat tyre.
Aside from all that, look at the state of the inner edge of the tyre! Still, as long as you think it looks good Smitty, it shouldn't matter that it'll handle like a dog and wear tyres out at that rate

Testing the future
when i was driving home from germany to uk a couple of weeks ago with a full load the rears were really getting quite hot on the inside edge due to the amount of negative camber and toe that sitting so low produces. i kept stopping and checking them, and kept the cruising speed down to about 65 - 70 to try and avoid a blow out.
i made it home, but the inside edges are now well gone. gonna get the tyres swapped over on to the other sides rims to move the worn patch to the outside where it doesn't contact much and get a bit more mileage out of them.
check out the low rider

just finding my feet
as stretch says, thats done by driving
i had my rear tyre let down by a tosser in oxford as i parked my car in "his space" out side his house ( btw was on the road but that section was recessed in before people start, was not private though !!!)
after doing around 100mphish on the way back the trye AND wheel was fooked

Mine went coming home from a Norfolk meet just outside Norwich, AA wouldnt come out as there was no spare in the car so I had to drive it 70 miles on a flat tyre
