Default Car Got Towed...anyone in the know about getting money back?

I work for a company called Liberata
one of our Clients is Croydon Council
Therefore one of my offices is at Croydon Council
Outsie the offices there are pay n display bays
I parked in one and didnt buy a ticket (it was a sunday and i assumed it didnt apply on sundays coz nothings fookin open n didnt read the sign)

at 2:15pm i got issued a icket
at 2:20pm my car was towed

The notice on the parking meter said £80 parking fine and £150 Towing Fine

They stung me for £200

This isnt a coyboy outfit, its actually the concil! not a contracter.

been told by the guys who released my car (the security for the building i work for... they do the pound "out of hours" ) that its common for them to tow "nice cars" as they know the owner will pay up, whereas if its a shitbox they normally never bother to collect the car.

so basically ive been stung as a way of making revenue

is there anything i can do? surely theyre not supposed to tow cars for the sake of it? surely it needs to be there more than 5 minutes of be causing a problem etc? the fact is there were NO other cars on the entire length of the road, so i was not in anyone's way etc.

croydon concil will indirectly be paying the fine anyway as i will put it in as expenses, but i would rather appeal n get a refund coz of the principal of the whole thing!

Only you Jim!

Round here they dont tow, but they do issue a fine if your car is parkeed there more than 2 minutes. IIRC they have to log the time your car is first spotted, if after 2 minutes you do not return to move it they issue a ticket.

Look like you learnt a very expensive lesson hun.

i might just go to the parking control mnager office tomorrow as ive got the ID to get around the building and the room number is on the back of the receipt but surely 5 minutes between getting spotted and getting towed? thats not right surely? if they gave me a ticket then fair cop i'll take it (well, i would still claim it as the reason i was parked there and not the staff carpark was becasue the crap security department have swapped over the swipe card machine and it wont accept my pass anymore )

still... PAY AND DISPLAY ON A SUNDAY?!?!?!! it's 5.40 for 2 hours aswell! its cheaper in the fookin city!

same happens in Camden. They issue the ticket, after they've called the truck guy.

I'm surprised it's acceptable and by the book to tow a car so quickly. Cheeky fookers.

Saying that though mate you did the deed and got nobbled.

They issue the ticket, after they've called the truck guy
bollox as to issue a ticket they have to give the PCN number, sorry to upset ya but i used to train the camden wardens before NCP took over, rules are still the same

jim any council can tow away a car thats commiting a offence to move the car from being a problem

also FINE's are not tax deductable so i doubt ya can claim expences as most companies only allow em as they can get it back off the tax man

moral of the storey is read the sign, even worse for you as ya live in a controlled parking zone so are fully aware of the rules

you just done what most done and thought "fuck it, its sunday, nobody works on a sunday"

guess ya made a mistake

oh and as for not towing shit boxes, they do that too as tbh the shit boxes are the people who get affected more and it gives em a self of teaching a lesson, where a guy in a boxster who pays it with his credit card and is more woried about the time it taken and the fact he had to hail a cab dont do the same as he prob earned more that day than the man towing earned that month

everyone gets a ticket in live, but its just about fleecing of cash, always has been but its down to people not being botherd to argue when they come in place and only care when it affects em that it happens

if only more people was like Andyescos

bollocks, ya got em for parking on white zigzag lines at a crossing as thats endorsable and also that was dont by traffic police and not a parking warden, they issue a ticket for it but cannot enforce points for it

try again

I just think there must be a rule about how quickly they can tow a car, i mean 5 minutes? if i was parked outside a fire station then i wouldnt mind, but they OBVIOUSLY did it just to get money out of me, no other reason at all.

Oh and i can charge it back to the client, as it's their fault i was there in the 1st place

ginge, because they cocked up access to the car park, and the only place to park with access (we were moving servers out of the car into the building) is out the front on the pay n display. I was doing thema favour by coming in on a sunday anyway.

TBH they pay our company 800quid a day for my services (actually its sunday so itll be 1600quid a day ) so i'm sure my boss wont mind stumping up n extra 200quid from the budget

it'd get paid without question if it was a yellow line etc. as fines are all part of the course for emergency callouts etc.

the fact that it was in a bay and i admited i didnt look at the sign just made me look a twat tho

still... PAY AND DISPLAY ON A SUNDAY? CVNTS!! AND TO TOW A CAR AFTER 5 MINUTES?! CVNTS!!

especially as that 200quid was supposed to last me for this week. ive got a fiver in my wallet and about 30quid in the bank at the moment

new i shouldnt have bought that new car stereo gear... could do with that money now!

ginge, are they really allowed to tow the car 5 minutes later? and is parking in a pay n display without a ticket on a sunday afternoon really a towable offence?!?! surely it cant be legal!

yes they can tow em away

don t supose ya rememeber on the news the councils saying there no longer gonna clamp for most parking offences as all it does is keep the cars commiting the offence longer and seems pointless

what they actually ment is more people are cutting the clamps off and its costing them too much and they aint getting any cash for it anymore

what they didnt mention though is now there gonna tow the cars instead, making MORE money and NO chance of cutting off the clamp

and people where talking about what a good idea it was

and yes its all about money but they can legally take money from ya
