My PC is currently using onboard sound, I am after better quality and louder sound from my headphones, Headphones are decent, they sound great when connected to my Home Amp. will adding a serparate soundcard make the sound better, and if so what sould I get?

p.s. it would be great if I could simply plug headphones into the front of my pc

 

audigy 4 cards are supposed to be shit hot but cant speak from experience as i dont need one for my needs

as above really, good cards IMO, and you can get one that comes with a front jack plug panel that fits into a spare 3.5 drive bay
