"If the donor vehicle is unlicensed, you may still be able to apply to transfer its number without renewing the licence if the vehicle licence expired not more than 6 months prior to the date of the application, or if the donor vehicle is not yet old enough to be tested (up to 3 years old for a car). You should be aware that in these cases, it is likely that the Local Office will wish to inspect the vehicle."

That's a pants rule that a car has to be taxed & tested before you can remove a reg plate.

Is that right then?? Car needs to have MOT nad Tax before you can retain plate??
Official wording as follows:
"If the donor vehicle is unlicensed, you may still be able to apply to transfer its number without renewing the licence if the vehicle licence expired not more than 6 months prior to the date of the application, or if the donor vehicle is not yet old enough to be tested (up to 3 years old for a car).
