Mate is looking to buy an Audi A3, was thinking about a sport 1.8 petrol, around 1998 model with around 60 - 80 K on the clock.

Anyone had one, any good???

 

Get the 1.8T Sport, 150bhp

Chip it, I think VAG are the daddies for this, and the Golf 1.8T lump

 

I'd rather have the Golf... I don't like the ride on the A3. It's fairly harsh for it's class, but doesn't take corners that well. I thought the 1.8 was a bit sluggish as well. Plus the car feels about forty times bigger than it actually is. I've got a 2000 1.6SE in at the moment, and it takes about a year to get to 60mph :/

Don't get me wrong, they're an all-round nice, complete, well-built car. I'd just rather have the VW or a BMW for the same money. The S3's not bad though

 

Steve, what's yours ging out at and what colour, any pics and spec??

The lad is going from a 1.4 pug 306, speed aint to much of an issue, just wants something that has a bit more go, but liked the looks of the A3, still look modernish.

I have suggested the 1.8 as fuel will be reasonable and it will have some poke and come with some spec hopefully.

He would want ABS PAS, E/W, R/C/L, Alarm,CD player

 

You have PM Matt, I'm being honest, I don't think the extra 200cc's justifies the extra 3 insurance groups...

It's got everything your mate's after, except a CD Player. (the previous owner has only just stopped asking "Shiny discs? with music on? naah') I'll send you some pics tomorrow, bit pointless now. It's err. dark.

 

Mates got an A3 quattro sport. Not great performance, but well built and nice to drive. Some nice touches and grips like fook. Would have the Audi over the Golf anyday, bit more prestige
