Default cossies...your PERSONAL views

what ya reckon of cossies?

Personally i think they are overated....

I was 23 when i bought my 1st escos. 16k...all mine, and i wouldnt have had ANY other car for the 16k. It was my dream car and yes, after 2 years owning i did fill up in the eyes when it drove off...

So i bought another...at 26...more mature too etc. Personally as mint as it was thought it was a bit shit to drive about and had NO respect for it...thats why it went after 170 ish miles of ownership....

And 3 doors are not as nice and saffs are ugly....So....what are your views?

and it aint a POWER thing either so dont bang on about my old one being a big t and new one being small T as i dont track cars and donr drive like a wanker on the roads

In standard form escort cosworths drive horrible. They are vague, underpowered and generally unpleasant to drive.

3dr's in standard form are nervous and twitchy and saphs are generally neglected rot boxes though they do offer the best drive of all the 3 cossies.

However once modified correctly I think as an all round package of performance, looks, tinkerability and tunability a 3dr is the best and of course the ford RS scene is one of the best car clubs going!!!!

Remember though to do a cossie properly is BIG money but the results are rewarding!!

i find with mine that it sits in the garage and i think whats the point i might as well sell it, but then when i bring it out and go out for the night i think, nah fook it, what will i buy instead?

plus theres something about them, like tonight i went to get petrol for tomorrow (ill sleep in now lol ) the garage is what 8 mile away, i came back having done 50 mile you just have to go the long way round everywhere you go so you get to drive it for longer mine at the minute is running spot on and giving me no grief so i love it, most times when i get back to my village i just think, ah fuck it ill have another quick burn down the dual carraigeway and back before i go in

i know mine aint the quickest of cossies, but it suits me just fine. oh and my mate who i bought this from had a standard escort small turbo and i thought it was shat slow, may have been something wrong with it but i was not impressed.

We are all individuals and will have different views with regards to cosworths. Not only cossies but anything in life. ie films, food, holidays etc etc.

IMO the escort cossie was my dream car and still is, hence why i have owned it 6 years. I WILL NOT part with it.

I have modified the car to suit ME and no one else because i am the only person who drives the vehicle. 12.39 1/4 @ 115 mph is good for me. I really enjoy the 1/4 mile but not the track, again my personal view.

In short IMO it comes down to the individual

Well you either like them or you don't........
I wouldn't say they're over rated though, for the amount of money you need to spend to get 300bhp out of a relatively old engine i'd say nothing comes close, that's what does it for me anyway. Personally i do like 3 doors better than my saph but they're RWD and getting old and i have enough problems with my saph as it is. Escorts are nice too, but not exactly cheap for a nice one and it's basically a sapphire underneath anyway.

Not sure i understand the overated bit m8?
I don't do loads of miles in mine but when i do i enjoy it
I suppose if i wanted an everyday car i would just go out and buy a newish Focus.
I also have no intention of ever parting with mine..
I think there gonna be like rocking horse shit in 10 years or so ( good ones that is)

I love cossies ,,that much i built my business around them
I can see why people are going jap but most who do come back to the cossie say they missed them .

I think the cossie will always be the number 1 performance car and will always be the car others try to replicate .

Name any other car that for the price tag will
1, Hold its value
2, make you smile
3, have as much street gred
4, cost as little to run ( thats if you dont buy a shitter to start with )
5, have the parts available ( std or modded)
6, has a massive following
7, bla bla bla

i agree with north yorks rs spares, some jap car's are better in some areas but the cossie is the best all rounder, and you can't beat it for the smile factor ,that's why on average your evo owner keep's is car a year or two, while the cossie owner keeps his till he crashes it or it's stolen

I was never that bothered by cars in general - christ I owned a skoda at one point. Then I got to drive a saph cossie and it blew me away, and i had to have one. I've driven other fast cars, but there is summat about the saph's that gives me goose bumps. U all know I drive a Rouse, and I love the fact that it differs from a regular saph cossie - cuz it launches like a motorbike. For me its the rarity factor, as well as the speed. She's quick enough for me, and I wouldn't want any more BHP. She makes me proud to own her, I get asked every other week if i want to sell her - I even got asked by an M3 owner the other day if I'd consider a swap! she turns heads, and I love the fact that as old as she is, she is loved by most people. I guess owning and driving summat that people seem to respect gives me a buzz.

agreed Karl... Without throwing money at them i think they arent the best...

Used to love em, but since buying the last one and selling it ive thought about em and they just dont float my boat anymore
used to look at 3drs and escosis and think 'fook that is nice', but not anymore....prefer mk1's, series ones etc etc

I used to think ALL of that Paul, but just not anymore...

DOnt get me wrong the performance of one is great,. but its more looks wise thats not doing it for me now.....

Hence why im thinking of doing the 4x4 series one project....im sure al get more pleasure out of building, then more smiles per mile when its done.. Same with Dingy, hes built that mk2 which must be more fun specially knowing hes built it himself

I've never had a cossie but like so many other's its been a dream of mine to own one! Knocking on the door of 26 so I better hurry up before the weight of life on my shoulders takes over and the urge goes...

I've been in a few and I love them!

But I've got another Fiesta to build before then...

I always wanted a Cosworth since they were on the telly in the eightes and I finally got my Escort Cos which I have owned for nearly nine years.
I have no intention of selling it and if I did I don't know what I would buy too replace it, I could afford a Skyline or a M3 but they don't do it for me.
I always get a buzz driving the Cossy and it always gets plenty of attention when Iam out in it (good or bad)
I don't think they are over rated for the money, I think Ford gave us a good deal

Dave.

PS Just taking the Cossy out of the garage its a nice day to go for a drive

awesome car from the mid 80's in 1985 the 3 door was released for 14k 0-60 in 6 seconds and 150 mph everyday family car put super car performance in the price range of the average person even your mum could drive one .
You are all expecting too much from a 20 year old car it's biggest asset is the COSWORTH name.

Personally speaking - I have Wanted a cosworth for Just about as long as i can
remember. i think the Esc Cos review on Top gear did it,
Clarkson loved it so much he wouldnt let them have it back! lol

finally got one of my own,(couldnt afford and esc cos lol)
having got it, I DONT think they
are that overrated. all i hear Cosworth drivers Jesting is

'ah yeah just a shonkey ol ford '

lol

Dunno, think you Really Gotta keep in mind the age of these cars now!
In my eyes i bought the car being an 'enthusiast' and i think we all realise
thats what you got to be really.

Well i love the escos, its great opening the garage and just seeing it there. I still think, personally that it is one of the best looking cars and theres nothing else i want. Admittedly mine only comes out on sunny dry weekends (which does seem a waste but at least it keeps it in tip top condition, plus i hate getting it dirty )) but when it does come out, oh i love driving it and the looks you get is just great. Plus i love having that bit of power (only 330 but thats good enough for most cars on the road). Sad i know but at all the rs shows, i come home with about 40+ photos of escos', and half of them ive taken before at other rs days! With regards to the price, i think its good that they hold there money and ARE expensive if they werent then every little sh*t would have one
Overated?? NO

Lee

I think you've just owned the wrong Cossies..... as I am sure you remember I had 2 Escorts, both big turbo ones.

My first one was Stage III and I loved it as a car, did 20,000 miles in it, then sold it to Big Nige.... the 'Diffmiester', with the intention of going for another 4x4 Saph... but couldnt resist another Escort... so bought another big turbo, this time in standard tune, it had all the toys, leather, aircon etc but somehow the Escort novelty had worn off so swapped it for an RS500...

Loved the 500 but it just wasnt that practical having to make an appointment for some boost, running costs etc.

So that went the journey and I ended up with a nice tidy 3 door with T34, greens etc on it and I love it to bits...

And the funny thing is... I've seen all my old cars at shows since and never have I thought I missed them... or wanted them back.

The 3 door is such a practical car, a proper touring car.

We've just had a family holiday up in Scotland, the car took the 4 of us, a load of luggage, you know what wimmin and kids are like, and it still returned 30 to the gallon on the run up there, got loads of looks while we were away and burnt off the occasional BMW & Merc on the way back down the A1 although I didnt go mad as the kids were in the car.

I think what I am trying to say that the 3 door and to a degree the saph are still very practical cars to own, with some sensible mods are just a bundle of fun

And as I've said to a few of my customers when they ask what car I drive and I say a Cosworth they all say 'you must be loaded..' but when its pointed out that I could only just buy a new KA with the money the 3 door cost me then it kind of puts it into perspective.

I mean look at chubby-boy-Tiffs.... a total bargain for what he was asking...

So blag a drive of someone 3 door mate... perhaps it might sort your head out

I've not owned a cossie yet, but i will do in the future. I've driven a few of the models - 3Door, Small turbo Escort, Rwd saph and i have to say i think the saph is the best. I just love the whole dirty old ford look that comes with them, they are such an understated car on the outside, a lot more 'stealth' than the 3 door or escort. When i buy one it will be as mint a one that i can find and i know i'll enjoy every minute of owning it.

thats what i like about them, they're nothing too special, just a family car that has been 'tweaked' to allow them to play with the big boys.

i like nothing more than playing with bikes and posers cars when i'm out and about. the thing that does it for me is bieng able to wipe the smug grin off of their faces.

i was really surprised at how well my saff went when i first got it, i've had some small problems with it, but i wouldn't change it for anything else, unless a nice 3-door shell came up!
