cossies...your PERSONAL views

i always wanted one since i was a kid and watched the touring cars, then when i was 20 2 of my mates got them (both 2wd saffs and stage 1) and i drove them and knew i needed one!!!
Couple of months later was stuck in traffic on the M25 headed for the A3M and decided to cut down past gatwick and down the A24 to get home instead, went past a showroom in pulborough and there on a raised grass verge was a totally standard, 100% mint Noveau Red 4x4 on a K for £12,995 and i said to my workmate that car's got my name on it!!
went back on saturday and bought it (insurance company must've thought it was xmas when i agreed to the policy!!)
First impression of it was shite and boring....... standard cossie's are lazy but the next weekend it had the stage 1 chip and i was starting to smile... within 3 months it had greens, t34, 3 bar, BD10's, -31 blah blah, u know the sorta spec and 350ish bhp and then it started to piss me off all the time, would break gearboxes, drive shafts (which also killed engine subframe every time too!) a front prop which shattered bell housing when it let go and generally ate my money as quick as i could earn it
EVERY time it broke i'd say fookit, thats it i'm gonna get it fixed and sell it!!! and everytime it got fixed i'd drive it and love it again so couldn't bear to part with it
eventually it went walkies and when it was found i saw it and honestly went white as a sheet and nearly passed out, it genuinely hurt to see my car stripped and just a rolling shell sat there looking sorry for itself so i kept the shell, bought bits and pieces with the intention of getting it back on the road but after 2-3 years i had all the bits i needed but never had the time to sort it and the decider was when i found the service folder full of receipts and in 14 months of ownership i'd spent 13k on the car!!!! so i sold the shell to a mate who sold it on to someone in london and it's now back on the road according to a DVLA check
so now i'm older and a bit wiser i'm looking for another one to respect a little bit better than i did my first (reason for wanting more than stage 1 power was it wouldn't donut which was also the reason it kept breaking things too!)
to me any cossie is a love hate relationship, kinda like another child in the family really!!! it always wants something, will play up and make u pull your hair out and cost you shit loads of money but when it behaves its unbelievable how rewarding it is
and if the owner of a K plate Noveau Red Saff K554 EEV comes on here.......... i hope you're looking after my baby

we've had loads of differant cars over the years, ended up with fords because they are well priced to buy, service & get parts for & i know more about them.
we've had 3 series 1's, about 20 series 2's, a couple of fiesta turbos, a couple of turbo cabs & five cossies,
one 3 door, great cars, so much nostalgia about them & so much fun to drive,,
a 2wd saff, more comfortable than a 3 door & a bit more fun in the sence that you feel you can throw them about a bit more than a 3 door as there not worth as much
a stage 3 4x4 saff, awesome car, plenty of power, 4 doors are great as we have 2 kids + it had the luxuary of leather & aircon!!!
a stage 1 saff, another facelift one with leather & aircon, very tidy 1 owner car, deffo the best car we've ever had, never had any problems with it & still going strong to date
an escort cossie, although got sticthed up with it!!! thought about getting one for years, finally got one, driving it home & starts to smoke like Dot Cotton, petrol gauge starts wavering, pulled in to services & filled up, started car & it was only running on 3 cylinders, no tools with me so had to get recovered home, didn't get back till 6 the next morning, took the car to Power Engineering that afternoon & they confirmed that it had some serious issues & the engine was fooked
now i have a fooked car that owes me over 14 grand
its going into the court channels at the moment as the guy i got the car off said it was my problem as it was now my car!!!

Well Lee, no i don't miss the saff.
Well happy with the escort and i will rebuild it.
Really like the 3 doors and if i were to have one it would have to be a 4x4 converted one for obvious reasons.
But my ultimate RS is the escort so will have one of them as long as possible.
Hope you are happy with whatever car you get next Lee, please enjoy it.
