Default Deposit on a new car.......

Hi, just need some advise. My girlfriend has put a deposit on a car bought from the news paper. She left £200 on a car thats worth £1300. She told the bloke that she was in the process of getting a loan and this may take 3 weeks + to come through. He was happy with this.

The thing is he is starting to kick off and is threatening to sell........
Were do we stand? we were up front and told him about the delay in funds.........

Thanks for any help, Smudge.

If you had an agreement then he should stick to it.
But if it aint in writing - you aint got too much to go on

Personally i'd ask him nicely to stick to the deal or i may get abit upset with him.

BTW, i've noticed you've spelt advice with an 's' (advise) - are you glass eye?

Bit of a high deposit for a 1300 car I'd think....I only left £100 for a 3000 car...just in case...

As far as it goes, make sure you get a written receipt with their address and signature for the deposit left....including the fact the balance won't be paid for a number of weeks...or you haven't got a leg to stand on

don't buy a car until you have the money he obviously has other buyers with cash in hand just get your deposit back in cash and buy from someone else
