Default NORWICH UNION - EXCLUDING DRIVING OTHER CARS ALL POLICIES

Hi All,

This is just an information post to everyone thats coverer by Norwich Union.

If you're covered directly (through NU Direct/Quote me happy), via a broker, or via ASDA/RAC in a wholesale capacity you will need to check your cover from renewal.

A policy decision has been made by Norwich Union, who have just announced in the press that with immediate effect all New and renewal policies will exclude the Driving other cars extension.

This warning is in order to let you all know so that you do not inadvertantly drive other cars assuming that you were covered.

The moral of the story will be to check your documents before you do so.

Kind regards

Tony

I'll tell you what tho, Norwich union knocked Ł325 off my renewal with elephant.co.uk for my Focus ST170 I got exactly the same cover on both quotes but it seems elephant are just money grabbing bastarts

The missus is with Norwich union too and im VERY please with the quotes and the cover we both got on our cars, IMO the best "everyday" car insurance broker this year. Shame they not too good with insuring an RS Turbo tho

Norwich Union are USELESS, been hit twice in two years by people insured with them, first repair i sent back three times coz the guy repairing it must have left his guide dog at home
Second time they wrote my car off I bought 8 days earlier for which I paid five thousand pounds, and they offered me 4000 for it
Still had a loan car for 3 months while they argued over it, then got a full payout, and a month later they rang me asking for my insurance details so they could send me a cheque for 4000
What a bunch of Tossers

No Buddy,

Direct line are owned by the Royal Bank of scotland, who also own Privilege. Tesco/Barclays are actually handled by UK Insurance, which is a trading name for privilege too. Direct line also own Churchill.

Norwich Union aren't part of that group, they are one of the largest general Insurers in the UK. They trade through brokers as Norwich union and directly through "Quote me happy", which is basically NU Direct.

They also are behind RAC Insurance & ASDA Insurance.

Kind regards

Tony

Tony, I read in the paper that they were only removing the driving other cars extension for under 25s, basically to stop people insuring 1ltr bangers and driving their parents' or their own more powerful cars on the policy.

So what is it? They've stopped it totally or they've stopped it for under 25s? I'm under 25 myself and don't really care as I've always found NU to be extortionate but others might need to know.

good question but a few things to remember, you can only drive cars that YOU and NO FINANCIAL interest in

also if you was 24 when ya taken the policy out you WILL NOT be allowed to drive other cars on ya poilicy when ya turn 25, its only when ya start a new insurance, sounds a coont but its also life

personally i cant seem em removing it totally as they will loose customers tbh, then they will go elsewhere, the only way is if all the companys copy and dothe same

but either way ive got it on my poilcy so i dont care

Hey Smoke,

There was no mention of age buddy, so I felt it best to warn you all so you wouldnt be left uninsured and as B19BAL says.. check your paperwork from renewal and ask on all new quotes, just to be safe.

My source of info was the Insurance Times, so here's the full quote from the Insurance Times:

Millions of drivers are under threat as UK Insurers prepare to remove driving other cars from full comprehensive policies.

The move will potentially leave motorists at risk of unintentionally driving driving without Insurance.

Norwich Union and brand partners (RAC/ASDA) are to phase out the cover over the coming months, with all policies likely to omit the benefit by the end of the year.

Craig Martin, motor product manager at Norwich Union said "This is the right thing to do and it has the full support of the police, the government and the Motor Insurers Database (MID). Not only does Driving Other Cars (DOC) make the MID impractical, but it is wisely abused"

He added "Driving other cars was initially for emergencies, but policyholders are using it as an alternative to getting covered on a second, more powerful car"

Royal & Sun Alliance (inc More Than), Cornhill and AXA are also carefully considering their position and may be looking to follow suit.

Hope this helps....

Tony

where did they get a silly idea like that from

sounds like the insurance times is giving people ideas and informing insurance comapnies silly ideas

the only problem is people who have been with em for years will follow other companies instead

can ya tell im abit sore with this idea

fook it if thats the case then il just have to be uninsured, the fines gonna be lower than getting a traders policy

This is what my mate from college did years ago. He insured his old beetle fully comp at 17 for about 600quid and had the sole use of his dad's escort cabby on which he would never have been even quoted.

Speaking of that, do Greenlight offer cover to make you drive other cars? If your fully comp?
If not, when does it come applicable,

Hi TC,

Sorry about the delay in my response, I got married 3 weeks ago and have only just got back to work late last week.

Our underwriters dont have any intention of doing this and even if one or two did we can place you with an insurer that offers driving other cars buddy.

If youve got it we always offer you cover that is comparable to what you already have and highlight all changes between you existing or a prospective new insurer.

Main thing to do if youre still not sure is to ask when you speak to us.

Kindest regards

Tony
