Default Hit limiter and now all is not well???

Had the 3dr bounce off the limiter in 1st gear last night and since then i have had a very crappy tappety sound that gets worse the faster you go

Will i just have fooked a tappet up or somat?
Or could i have done somthing worse?

I love my driving

I heard if u bang the car of the limiter, the valves can knick the pistons So might have done this and damaged a valve? Though im not sure about this mate! so what for someone else to say!

rhys, i doubt kris's rev limit is high enough for the valves to start to float, what is it kris 7k?

kris, i hit my 7500 in 2nd and 3rd last night all is very well though get her over to oli's for his opinion

Isn't it easier to do the damage in 1st than 2nd though mat? revs rising faster??

Also yours is a freshly and very nicely put together engine... do they get tired and more susceptible to damage or is it just a luck thing?

i thought you have a limiter in place as a last resort, not something that was there to tell you when to change gear

Is it just a tapping sound that it has developed or has it started to run badly or worse in any way?

Also, is the tapping noise in synchronisation with engine revs (as in speeds up in time with the revs and slows down with the revs...)?

Is the noise coming from the top of the engine or lower down?

It is possible that the cam belt has jumped a tooth. When they do this the valve just touch the pistons and make a tapping noise. Flip the cover off and check the timing marks (the correct timing marks) are nob on.

lee, id guess (cos i dont KNOW lol) that not loaded properly in the lower cogs (where it may be spinning up still) it takes you by surprise more and so lasts longer doing it power ON/OFF thing

re luck....in life i have as much luck as your legendary bad cossie luck, so mine would have thrown the crank out the sump and spat the cams through the bottom last night if luck were an element my engine differs massively from kris's, my valves will NEVER float for one, the engine will shake itself to bits before the valves leave contact with the isky's

i dont know much about how weber rev limiters work, ive had a lecture from karlos about the stresses it places on the engine components with its on/off/on/off if you hang it there but that was more a generic thing that a yb specific lesson lol one thing that stands out in my limited memory goes along the lines of "essentially rpm is the killer of ANY engine", i dont normally wring the nuts off mine, was only driving like a pleb last night as a)i finally have a working rev counter and b)have a new cooler fitted so was act monitoring and the thing accelerates so fast your doing 7500 before you know it LOL i aint no rev monster anyway which is why i have the baby turbo and way lower power band than the engine deserves really and c)it would have been rude not to leave 2 fuck off thick black lines followed by a pop at the top of 1st for the young lads who collect in the town centre car park with their corsa's ave it

Yes to the first one.
And sounds as though its coming from the top so with any luck is just a tappet

Kris- they do touch if theres no cut outs in the pistons did you miss a gear or over rev it. Honestly like cuz if you missed a gear I imagine it will not be good.

Ok then,heres what happened-

I went to Bakewell to pick up a fat chick from the spar shop, i pulled into the car park at the side of it and thought i'd doughnut it,was just starting when i suddenly notice a police station over the road and a copper was looking at me and i thought SHIT! and lost concentration and bounced over the limiter 4 or 5 times then fucked off quick
