All EBC pads are now "chamfered" (the step you describe), the reason for this is reduce the chances of any noise, you will not lose any braking efficiency at all.

They also are all now slotted (slot down centre of pad) and shimmed (metal - rubber shim on backing plate).

All of this adds up to a totally silent pad.

They also now have a bedding compound on the face (red coating) to condition your discs on first few applications of the brake pedal.

If these pads have "E388" marked on the back of the pad. This is the new "Ceramic" redstuff material. I had this on my cossie and is a brilliant material

EBC have recently introduced many new materials (all manufactured in UK) which are far superior to previous materials.

thanks Mattie so there should be no loss of efficiency strange but i surpose ofter time they will get better as they wear as more pad will contact the disc

neil d,

Friction is independant of area.

ie. you could have a brake pad measuring 1cm by 1cm and your car will stop at exactly the same rate, the brake pad will just wear out a lot faster

I dont understand that theory. If friction was area independant why do we all try and put wider tyres on the cars? Basically grip is friction between the tyres and the road is it not? I may be wrong !!

think you mean the friction on a 1x1 will be the same but stopping power will be vastly different
