Friction is independant of area.
ie. you could have a brake pad measuring 1cm by 1cm and your car will stop at exactly the same rate, the brake pad will just wear out a lot faster

I dont understand that theory. If friction was area independant why do we all try and put wider tyres on the cars? Basically grip is friction between the tyres and the road is it not? I may be wrong !!
