Default B0110X!!!!! My insurance doesn't allow car on Ring

Just been sorting some stuff and found out my insurance company (Privilege) don't offer cover for the Nurburgring under the "no unlimited toll road" clause. £4300 and its not worth a toss...ARGHHHH!!!!

Any suggestions peeps?

do you mean because there is no enforced speed limit if so and someone may corect me on this but the road does have a speed limit as a get out cause for insurance reasons it is there all year round but is only enforced for 3 days

I argued with them that it was a public toll road with a speed limit but they consider it a closed racetrack and will not cover me under any circumstances. New insurance company required pronto.

Cam,
As SBD says, there ARE speed limits in force on certain parts of the toll road, so in theory, you "should" be covered. However, I would imagine that this clause has been put in to expressly exclude the 'Ring by underwriters, who are not aware of the speed limit in force (at Adenau Bridge), meaning it is not totally unrestricted..?

The only things I can suggest is to ask if the will extend the cover to include this explaining that there are speed limits in force (you will want any agreement in writing though!), or seperate cover or finding someone that does cover it?

Just on hold waiting to talk to one of their underwriting team but it doesn't sound good.

I read about this - as i myself am insured with Privilege (who i can't fault for anything other than this) on Ben Lovejoy's site
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/insurance.html

A number of companies now exclude 'de-restricted toll roads'. Although they don't name the Nurburgring, it's hard to think what else this could mean. At the time of writing, these companies are Direct Line, Privilege, Egg, Tesco and Barclaycard. I have also been advised that two more companies are on the verge of specifically excluding the ring from insurance: Royal and Sun Alliance and Norwich Union

They will not cover the'Ring and apparently, according to the underwriting pencilneck, most insurance companies adopted this clause in April due in part to TV coverage of Ring trips. Cheers Jezza ya lanky fucktard!

Unless it actually states on your policy something that explicitly discounts the ring (which unrestricted toll road doesnt as its NOT one) then it doesnt matter if they want to cover you or not, they are legally obligated to do so.

They class the Ring as a track as do 99% of insurers

Sadly yes £12 a day before key goes in the ignition but I have declared all mods and have a high agreed valuation plus guaranteed salvage rights.

Work is in progress in deepest Lancashre at this very moment and *fingers crossed* I may have it back for TOTB but the downer is only 1bar of boost and 5krpm for 1000 miles....so maybe going to TOTB in it isn't a good plan.

Cam,
Anyway, I don't know what you're worrying about, as Gareth Lloyd's insurance company said the same thing to him about his F40, but he still took it .

We do Craig, and I agree with you... but as Cams Gearbox is worth about the same as your entire car you can see why he is being a little more careful Cost of repairing Skylines is horrific as well. Aluminium bonnets, wings etc..

Four things basically -

1, Been done before for no insurance way back when I was 17 (riding my bought @ sixteen 750cc at 125mph before my 17th bday/speeding/no license etc) and don't want to go through that kinda shit in the Fatherland.

2, Totalled a 6 week old GSXR1100 at Cadwell and insurance didn't want to know so that has made me from that point on very picky that I am fully covered and declare all mods.

3, Say I hit an F40 uninsured then not only do I have a mashed Datsun to repair but also the 2nd best Ferarri next to a 348 ( ) at my expense...err fook that!

4, Worst scenario - I am involved in a crash where there is a fatality and end up doing a 15 stretch (they dish out heavy sentences there) for culpable manslaughter and not compensating victims family via insurance cover.

Gareth must have been (overly imo) confident that he wouldn't have any prangs and/or was well heeled enough to be in a position to cover all costs if things went Pete Tong.

Never noticed the speed limit on the bridge!

My insurance is the same, has the clause that Ben Lovejoy mentions, which does definately mean the Ring isn't covered. Mines been round there two weekends now and on the prior 3 trips I was driving my old chaps car which I'm certainly not insured on!!

Not wishing to talk anything up but, heaven forbid, if anything did happen, your best bet would to be towed a fair distance away and make something up.

Engines been hopped up/gearbox changed/wheels/brakes/susp/stereo plus I have had a heart attack and have an agreed value of £75k all mods etc declared.
The agreed value took a lot of negotiating and bumped premium up by £1700 or so on its own but if I mash the car I get back most of my investment and guaranteed get salvage rights to the remains.

I would be prepared to risk that to get my car recovered back to the UK but in all honesty could you see a "secret" like someone bending their pride and joy at the Ring not being all over the net and like I said before if there is a fatality it turns a fun weekend into not just a life wrecker but also bankrupts you as well.

I know exactly where you're coming from, especially as my old chap had a fairly minor prang in his Z3 M Coupe round there last year only for it to be broadcast on Top Gear!

Totally agree on the fatality thing, I think if that did happen then finaces would probably the last thing on anyones mind. At the end of the day anyones first trip to the ring should be treated as not much more than a Sunday drive around to get a feel for the place, aslong as everyone uses mirrors well and are generally aware then I would like to think we'll all have a safe trip.

OK take this scenario -
Your braking from high speed and a fully insured German bike rider slams into the back of you and is killed immediately. The Feds HAVE to be informed of any injury so along come GrupenFuhrer Plod. The way they look on an accident like that over there is that the person who was rearended was at fault for not being correctly positioned so you are arrested on suspicion of causing death by negligent driving. A few months later you go to court and it gets judged knock for knock (knock for knock assumes both parties have cover) and the fact your insurance DOESNT cover Ring laps isn't an issue...Hmm I think not.
Folk are sugar coating it but basically saying they are happy to go on this trip *uninsured* while they are on Ring and thats a risk I am not prepared to take.

the way i understood it was.... for example:

i've just overtaken you , we both go around a corner, i spin and my car takes yours out. your insured and i'm not so you can't claim off me, if you wanted a pay out, you'd have to claim on your own policy.

i'm probably wrong, its just how i always thought it was, especially considering the majority of trackdayers don't have any form of insurance so if 2 of those come together its a knock for knock, shit happens outcome.

its sensible not to risk it anyway, not having a dig or anything
