Default Wireless Routers and Wanadoo

The Missus' Uncle bought a lappy yesterday and a 125mps Belkin Wireless Modem he rang last night saying he's about to pull what little hair he has left out.

Apparently hes unplugged the lead from the Wanadoo modem to plug into the back of the router and the plug on the end of the cable is too small for the socket in the router.

I said wrong modem and I'd pop over and have a looksie today and return the router back to comet and get the correct one.

Any ideas what type of modem I need

I thought that and asked the chap at comet twice whether it was a modem/router or just a router and he insisted it was a modem/router. Still reckon its not though. I have a linksys router and I'm pretty sure I have exactly the same sockets as the one he bought yesterday

I have linksys too.

I reckon the bloke at comet has sold your lasses uncle just a wireless router.
I Have never seen any broadband modem with a feed any thing other than RJ11 the smaller version of a patch lead connector.

You need to make sure the belkin box says "adsl modem/router" exactly like that. Why not get a 54mbs speed one and save about Ł30. You do know that you bin the original wanadoo modem when using the new modem/router?

As above, sounds like a wireless router instead of an ADSL wireless router.

agree with tony, no need for a pre-N router for broadband.. infact, no need for 802.11g for that matter!

all sorted. Just checked the box and is a router ! Even though matey at comet insisted it was a router/modem. Took it back and in all fairness it was an easy mistake to make. Both the modem/router and the router only are in such similar packages and they had been put in the wrong place on the shelf. Exchangs or a 54mps linksys modem/router and got a wireless usb port or his desktop too. No doubt i'll be getting a call soonish though !

Old people bless em

Cheers all thanks for the info !
