Default Annoying Pc problem.. come on Guru's

At home we have a Pc running windows XP Sp2.

We access through a wireless router for the additional PC's but this is wired into the router.

On every computer we cana ccess msn messenger annd secure sites apart from this one.

When you try on the problem Pc it says page cannot be displayed.

I have tried to lower restricted sites as its set to high, but tells me I cannot lower the security as this needs to be setup as high or above.

I turned off Windows firewall and made no difference. So loaded up Nortons and tried making a change but says I'm not admin. I built this machine about 8 weeks ago with 1 account as admin, and checked this in the admin groups etc.
Nortons has an option to login but the box is greyed out. I cannot remove nortons as says i'm not an admin.

Come on people, this must be easy for you,,.,,

Thanks

Andy

That will be your problem then

Seriously, can you access the net at all with the "problem" pc ?

If not, type IPCONFIG in a command prompt on one that works and the problem one.

You should see
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : xxx.xxx.xxx.yyy ( should be same on both, except yyy which will be different)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ( should be same on both)
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ( should be same on both)

If the above isn't as you see it, check you IP network settings, you may have misconfigured the IP address of the "problem" pc, or, not set it to DHCP or something like that.

If this is above your head - good, we may be making progress, if not, sorry for stating the obvious

So, main pc with the router has the broadband connection installed, and each pc is connected to the router ? Have you manually specified IP addresses or have you let windows automatically obtain an address ??

Can you ping each machine on the network, and furthermore, can you ping www.passionford.com on each machine ?

The Norton you mention, what version? Not Internet Security is it?

I would start by resetting all the security tabs in "Internet Options", then "Security" to the default values. Also set the "Privacy" tab to Medium and in "Advanced", click on "Restore Defaults"

All Pc's run DHC{P from the router. the problem PC can access the internet and sites with no problems, just not secure sites.

I am using Norton internet security same as the other 2 Pc's in the house.

I cannot reset the internet security tabs, when trying to lower the 'restricted sites' tab it says that the level needs to be set to high or higher..

Even with using custom and dropping everything down I cannot do it.

Now I need to either remove Nortons, but cannot as says i'm not admin even though the account is in every admin group and only 1 person setup. Or somehow get the options to change in IE.

Might be worth trying this - uninstaller for Norton Internet Security...

Any chance the firewall in your router (if you have one), has some specific configuration for the IP of the problem pc ?
