Default 1.8 and 2.0l zetec heads?!?!?!?!?!

are they one and the same???

ive measured the inlet valves, zorst valves and ports on a 1.8 head i have got..

valves are
i/l = 32mm
o/l = 28mm

and my mate says they are the same as his 2.0l head

so are they actually the same??

im asking this cos another mate has got a stage 3 1.8 head with piper cams on his 2.0l bottom end, decat, 4-2-1, unichip and powerboost valve

when he had the chip fitted and mapped, it came out as 149bhp!!!!

hes not happy.

can you please tell me if this is the case

cheers

Yep, supposedly the same mate

Infact a mate of mine who flow benchs a lot of zetec heads, says they are identicle, though slight differences in combustion chamber design, and he prefers the 1.8 heads, something todo with better casting & lasting longer.

When you say stage 3 head what exactly has been done ??

Yes the head can be machined to match but very little would be gained.

ok, he said the head is just ported and polished and gas flowed?, so not stage 3 as that has bigger valves, 3 angle seats etc does it not??

I have 1.8L Zetec-e engine (105ps) and I would like to install in it 2.0L Zetec-e Mondeo head, which has higher lift cams and which I will get for very reasonable price. My only concern is the combustion chambers, do I run into trouble with them? Or do I just have to replace the cams and the springs from the mondea head to my 1.8L head?

near 150bhp on the standard injection system is bad at all is it? I thought this was a limitation above that?

yrkesman... you should be able to just fit 2.0 cams and springs to your 1.8 engine. I think SimonT of here has done that to his.

Phil,
If the combustion chambers are the same volume (48cc I've seen somewhere??) do you know where the 2.0L gains the extra volume above the piston at TDC to maintain the same 10:1 CR as the 1.8?
I know the 1.8 piston extends beyond the block deck at TDC btween 0.25 and 0.5mm - I'm assuming the 2.0L doesn't?
Can anyone confirm the piston height with respect to block deck at TDC for 2.0L ?

Cheers
Rich

Yep my 105 spec 1800 is running:

2.0 Cams
2.0 Throttle body
RS1800 ECU + Superchip
EGR Removed

Dunno what power its running but it hits the limited in 5th

I heard as well the 1.8 heads are slightly different to the 2.0 ones but unfortunatly i dont know what they are!

Roll on my zetec turbo

I think the clue's in what RichM said - the combustion chambers in the heads are different size.

I *thought* the 1800 head had a smaller chamber, but from RichM's info it might be the other way round (i.e. the 1800 head will lower compression on the 2.0L).

Port sizes, shapes, etc, aren't noticeably different to my amateur eye

By the way, I would have thought 149bhp from an n/a Zetec E is actually very good going if you're still running EEC-IV!

I'm not at all sure the chambers will be different - I know the pistons aren't in the same position with respect to the block deck at TDC, this could easily make up the difference of 4-5cc neccessary. I just haven't been able to confirm exactly what the TDC height is for 2.0 pistons.

I think they are different shaped CCs, due to the 1.8 and 2.0s different bores, ie, squsih pads have been moved to suit.

I dont think anyone will get a solid answer until ne of us gets a head off an engine and CCs it. I have a 1.8 head Im happy enouhg ot CC when i get time, as I have to strip the engine anyway.

My 2.0 head is on another engine tho,, so cant be removed now (unless someone wants to donate a headgasket and headbolts )
