most ppl complain that they dont get the quoted speed so bulldog blames us at BT we chack the line... no probs it 90% boils down to their equipment.

also cust services leave a lot to be desired from what most customers have told us and there helpdesks are equally useless

MaxDSL has now been released, which means selected lines on "standard" BT lines can now reach up to 8Mbps. However, Bulldog use their own kit for the most-part, and so can "normally" control how fast your line is, right up to the claimed 8Mbps (assuming your line can support it, which isn't guaranteed).

I've just gone to Bulldog, I got fed up with NTL customer services.

I signed up for 4meg and got upgraded to max 8meg before connection.( Interactive Service)

I was on line 16 days from sign up, first day 7.8 meg since then usually 5.2 to 5.5 meg, it did get down to 4.3 once.

I didnt see Buldoghell until after I signed, most problems seem to be if you are changing from one ADSL supplier to Bulldog.

If you are new to ADSL and dont mind a new phone number its O.K.

I tried to get some information from Bulldog Customer services before signing but never got to speak to anyone.

The contract is only monthly so I will be cancelling if there are problems.

The minimum guaranteed level is 2 meg.

I think you'll find horror stories for most broadband suppliers tbh, if you have a good look.

Bulldog is a Cable & Wireless company.......

Their deal on paper actually looks quite good if you are in an area that can achieve full speed and you use your phone a lot (one package includes free UK landline calls with the BB)

Indeed, bulldog have been bought by C&W not long ago, also, they have been going for much longer than since 2004, DSL is relatively new for them, but as a business, they are much much older.

Also, they may be owned by C&W, but they are still a separate business entity. So unfair to put both in the same basket.

Also, moving from one ISP to another is a relatively new process, not long ago you would have had to resign your DSl line with isp 1, then get it installed again by isp 2. Anyone moving at the moment is probably experiencing teething problems as systems and processes are being put in place

Watch out for any capping clauses that restrict how much you can download per month though, some prices are very attractive (like £15/month for 8Meg), but you only get 100 minutes of full speed a month
This may explain why people are not getting what they think they should be getting...

Quite right Frog

The package I saw was about £50 (discounted to £40 for a few months) which included UK landline calls.

I do like Bulldog's low contract term - wonder if it means they have faith in their service that they don't tie you down for 12months..... Either that or they can't be doing with the hassle when people want to migrate away

If I was in the market for ADSL, I'd certainly be considering their package.

As for BT, they've hardly helped make 'broadband Britain' a dream come true

I won't talk about my daily dealings with BT then, their inadequate B2B computer systems which do nothing to help ISPs efficiency, really poor customer support (operators read a script, if you ask anything that's not scripted you get a blank on the line - I have visited the call centres up in scotland )
As for being helpful towards other ISPs, well, dare I mention "lip service", BT would prefer to have the whole customer base to themselves, but they are not allowed, so drag their feet when it comes to being helpful - despite what is being said in meetings, etc... Rock and a hard place comes to mind when you speak to their management.

Don't get me wrong, BT is a business that is in business to make money, not help others take their customers away, but sometimes you really feel they use their monopoly to their advantage (most of the time in fact).

How do I know this ??? I work in IT in telecoms and supply Operational Support Systems to around 20 ISPs worldwide, many in the UK

Jim, we learn every day

Sorry, know nothing about these I'm afraid, I specialise in order management, inventory management and service activation if that makes sense.
So I talk to ISPs a lot and BT too
