WRONG!

My line had been activated and the modem light was still flashing, i moved the PC into all the rooms and tried it every phone socket, it eventually connected in the kitchen! (main socket btw)

So, its probably the phone socket or cable thats not compatable.

im lucky my uncle works in BT he run a new cable from the main socket to the spare room and it was all 100%

Had this at my mums and it turned out to be an old supresor that BT had fitted to stop us hearing Radio 1 on the phone line.

My mate joined up to BT B'Band and had problems with it also.

He could install the driver etc and set it up and get it working, then after 10mins or similar it would not connect to a web page and the phones wouldn't work

On a hunch I put a DSL filter on every phone line in the house (4 I think) and it worked after that. Took em all out and only used the one where the ADSL modem was plugged in and it worked, then didn't work.

So I refitted every phone line with a DSL filter even tho only one had both phone and ADLS plugged in and it has worked fine ever since

Much oddness......

I had problems with bt broadband, the first line would flash, the problem was i couldnt get a line, so i called bt engineers and asked them to replace the line that runs from the house to the pole outside, this fixed the problem and away i went with broadband

Can make a diffrence, had probs with mine. When I rang wanadoo they asked what colour extension lead I had
Told them it was white and they should be ok,grey are no good though
Said they reccomend using the main socket though.
As said above makesure all sockets are filtered thats the only time mine had probs was when the kitchen phone line was un-filtered

Find the master socket, and VERY carefully unscrew and remove the faceplate. If it's a new-style master socket, it'll have another telephone-socket behind the faceplate itself. Unplug ALL other telephony equipment in the building (phones, fax machines, Sky+ box, phone-based alarm system, etc), and plug a single microfilter into this "test" socket, with the modem plugged into that.

If it still doesn't work like that, try reinstalling the modem-drivers. Just to check, by the way, is it the data-light or the USB-light that doesn't stay solid? If it's the USB-light, then either the drivers aren't installed properly or it's not getting enough power through the USB-socket; if it's the data-light and the USB-light is solid, then there's a line-problem (this could be anywhere between the socket you're plugged into and your ADSL exchange).

I assume phones all work perfectly in the house?

If they do, give BT Customer Services a ring and get them to run a DACS test, to confirm that the line definitely isn't DACS'd (DACS being a system where two copper wires are shared between two phone lines - it's not compatible with ADSL).

If all else fails, call AOL and get them to raise a fault with BT. If they refuse to, then I'm pretty sure you're able to cancel your account with a full refund as they've never provided the service being paid for.

From what I've seen in work from testing the new Voyager stuff, the 105 is just a standard USB modem, which means you should just be able to use the standard AOL sign-on screen (although I've never dealt with any AOL stuff, so may be worth double-checking that with AOL).

make sure every phone(or connection) in the house is filtered (plus the modem). If it's not DACS'd and been set up by BT it should work. If you dont have enough filters to go round just unplug the phones from the line and this should prove fruitful - barring a hardware fault of course.

Basically you should have phone > filter > line, and modem > filter > line.

ie. You cant just plug 1 filter in the main socket and expect it to work.

yes sign on on normal aol screen, did you update to the latest aol as that comes with the aol broadband checker and i had exactly the same problem as you, i tried everything uninstalls, reinstalls, line checked, aol broadband checker the lot spoke to bt

phoned aol, 1st bloke didn't have a scooby, 2nd bloke said yep, took me to some screen ,ticked a box and hey presto broadband working

i cannot check to see what the screen was till i get home, as i wrote it down in case of a crash!
