Default S2 Knock sensor???

Do s2 rsts have them and if so where is it and what colour?

Im still having trouble with my ignition timing retarding itself and someone said that it could be the knock sensor shorting or maybe broke?

THE KNOCK SENSOR IS THE GREEN SENSOR on the right hand side of the inlet plenum as you look at the engine from the front,,,

they are on most late series 2 turbo's,,,

not sure about early 1's,,,,,

U need to leave it plugged in.

Take the sensor out.

Wrap it in bubble wrap and cable tie it to somewhere away from the engine on one of the brake lines or somet.

Failing that dont forget, Std RST's retard with a bar of boost on a standard cooler mine as soon as u got into 3rd in the summer used to retard when standard.

U shouldn't need to???

I dont think I did on mine.. cant remember.
The knock sensor sense the engine knocking BUT due to shitty cams in rattly CVH engines it can interpert (sp) cam noise as knock and retard the igniton.

The bubble wrap because u need to insulate it from vibration.

If u run a bar of boost on a std cooler it WILL retard in the summer anyway.

Another knock sensor would be handy for that

Mr.h., Knock sensor detectrs 'knock' (det) and retards the ignition afaik.

wraping it in bubble wrap it wont corode. . and take it off so it cant retard your ignition?

If your car is chipped and running lots of boost on std cooler then shame on you

did youi block the hole it came out of?

Also check the vacum pipe to the ECU from the inlet. if its leaking it may be the prob.

There is no direct "hole" into the inlet manifold Vroooooooooooom

its just a tapped blank m8 no need to block at all as its already done and cant be unblocked without drilling out...

RE... ignition..

get your cam timing checked m8, could be miles out or maybe slipped a couple of teeth

S1 Ecu doesn't have a knock sensor input because they dont have knock sensors and thus there shouldn't be a plug for it in the loom.

I am confused!!!

mr.h

Check your air charge temp sensor(act) IN X OVER PIPE, as if this is faulty will retard the ignition, also drops boost pressure, also check the wiring to and from it , not touching each other, i remember this problem its going on a bit now, and most things have been checked, so check this out.

I have a series 1. it has a series 1 ECU. it has a series 2 engine/inlet fitted. the knock sensor is not plugged as you said no plug on loom, so its useless i left it on thinking there would be a hole in the inlet if it was removed, but now i know there wont be i can remove it!
