Default Who has had a bad experience with 'Chips Away'

Just had a small scratch which required a small repair (rather than getting rid of the factory finish and having the full panel painted). ts been done today to the worst std i have ever seen (its matt) and the paint finish is nothing like the original, plus nearly half the panel has been painted.

To top it off I had my rear bumper and rear spoilers painted a few weeks ago by a body shop to a very high std (and cost !!) and now it has overspray everwhere........so dissapointed.

The bloke reckons waxing will bring back the shine.........now it looks like I will have to get the whole panel done and have the rest of the car machined polished to remove the crap off it.

DO NOT USE !!!!

He has agreed to come back, but made excuses about the weather was no good for painting.........well why do it (its real sunny and warm) !!!

I don't really want him messing about with it anymore so I will be asking for my money back and i'll have to get the whole panel repaired and re-painted.

Worst still is you can see where he has rubbed the scratch out with his fingers rather than using a flat block.

Its a black escort cosworth (he probably though it was worth 1500 quid) and the damage was from the edge of the rear window to near the back light, was scratched with a key.

He was silly then he couldve used the swage line in r/1/4 as a soft edge mask line... Ł95 is steep, though I wouldnt even do it for that pmsl

It prob will look bit better once he has flattted and polished, as the clear was probably drying too quickly in the heat (though there are ways around that )

IMO Black would be one of the worst colours to blend the clear in the middle of a panel, which is probably why he ended up spraying half the panel, cos he couldnt get it looking right, you will nearly always see a clear blend line in this area oin a colour like this...

I could do it pretty damn well, but I would want too much money and the car may aswell go into a paintshop in that case...

SMART repairs are good but they do have limitations...

I woud've come and looked at it if I was local and you had belled me, if it needed paint, I wouldve just walked away ......

I'm hoping he has put enough paint onto it to flat it back and polish it up.

He was also using a heat lamp then he was saying the panel the weather was playing a part..........oh well I don't know enough about these things.

I suppose you just hope that when your paying for a good job you expect to get one.........unfortunately these days its one dissapointment after another.

It was more the convenience factor more than anything else, a day to do rather than two weeks. I know what i should have done !!.

I cant seem to get a good picture with the camera unfortunatly

I just really hope he can polish this out and do a reasonable job with it. if not i will be asking for my money back, if not there will be calls to both trading stds and the main chips away company.

from the advert .....

Repairs carried out with the unique ChipsAway system are of the highest quality, undetectable and preserve the integrity of the car's original paintwork - and therefore it's value.

This is not true !!!
