The plan is indeed to use 4gauge wire but from where to where to we have to do this????
You can buy earthing kits for Skylines but you can't do that for Cossies so I was thinking of putting 1 together for us Esc Cos owners.
But I do need to where exactly put in some extra earths? ie on the chassis, engine, gearbox, WHERE ??????

Any more then that?
Don't want to leave out anything.
Where on the engine?
Where on the gearbox?
Should I put seperate earths on head and block or what?

i dont really see what your trying to do, do you think you'll gain power by having really low earth resistance on all your metal parts?
im sure anywhere on the block will be fine

I would say cleaning up all the original earths would help massively!
I also didn't have part of my loom earthed to the inlet manifold, which Stu said would be bad because of something about interference loops or something........

@GARETH T, no m8, no power gain but I hope that this would cure some of my weird problems I've got.
@RichardPON, quote (I also didn't have part of my loom earthed to the inlet manifold, which Stu said would be bad because of something about interference loops or something........) --> don't understand that part m8.

Geert,
On the side of the inlet manifold, where the throttle cable bracket connects, are two engine loom earths.
I had mine extended and earthed to the chassis, but bearing in mind these are the earths for the injectors, for reasons best known to more technical people than me, you should always earth to that point on the manifold..............

Hi speedy
DazC does a direct replacement wiring harness and he sounds like he knows a lot about wiring. He does a kit for £45 that replaces all the wiring
he's posted me the info of his cables and i'm gonna 1 for my car very soon.
Basically the origional Ford cables are not rated high enough for the current that the auxilliaries can draw and also the current that the alternator can supply(3 doors have 45 amp cables with a 90 amp alternator and Sapphs have 70 amp cable with a 90 amp alternator!!!) My alternator cable is bigger in diameter than the origional Ford starter cable and my new starter cables are about twice as thick as the origionals... The alternator cable is rated 145amp IIRC and the battery cables are rated 315amps. They are direct replacements for the origional ones and take about 2 hours toremove the old and fit the new ones in properly. Battery negative has a 10mm eyelet for bolting to the bell housing and a 6mm eyelet to bolt to the battery post, the battery positive cable has an 8mm eyelet for bolting to the starter and a 6mm eyelet for bolting to the battery terminal, the alternator cable has an 8mm eyelet for bolting to the back of the alternator and also a 6mm eyelet for bolting to the battery. All soldered on and covered in protective sleeving with heat shrink. The only thing that needs to be kept from the old cables is the body to battery earth. I can supply a seperate one if required though.

cheers

Speedy,
I had grounding problems on my 4x4, and as well as cleaning up all the original connections on the chassis and inlet manifold, I also found it made a good improvement to fit an additional ground cable directly from battery negative to the point where the loom earths bolt to the inlet plenum (all together under the same bolt) This is a good size cable (not certain of the wire gauge.. ) but around 8mm overall diameter. I'm not certain if Escort has the loom earthed to the inlet plenum in exactly the same way, but you get the picture - basically improving the connection between battery neg. and the point where the engine loom earths terminate.
I was getting spurious interference on the ignition amplifier trigger signals (investigated with oscilloscope) which was causing erratic tacho operation and even misfires.

Hello.
The kit I do is based round a Sapphire/3door/RS500 so probably won't fit straight onto an Escort. I have not been asked about any for escorts yet so have never developed any.
Basically I had problems on a few Sapphires and 3 doors locally that all turned out to be old wiring (poor starting + running, lights going dim, charging and voltage problems). For the £45 you get a battery to engine earth cable, a battery to starter cable and a battery to alternator cable. I am however going to introduce a chassis to battery earth cable.
If you have a problem on local earthing points then this kit will not cure your problem though as the path to earth (battery neg) is interupted by the high resistance of the local earthing points to chassis. If you have got this problem then you wil need to clean all your local earth points.
If I get someone locally who is interested in a set for an Escort then I will make a set to fit them. I wouldn't hold your breath though.
