Default Cat C/D Write Off & Insurance

I'm looking at getting a very lightly damaged car for my girlfriend & fixing it up for her as her first car (door & bottom of rear qtr damage).

Do you need to tell your insurance company if your vehicle is a Cat C/D write off??

Years ago i had a pug 205 gti. I new it was a cat d but the car was mint. A drunk driver went into the back of it and wrote it off. Because i new it was a cat d and told the insurance company, they were only going to pay out 2/3 of the value of the car. May just have been my crap insurance company............

it wont be a problem until you have to claim, then they will give u jack for it as they (insurance) have already paid out on the car.

Best to tell them and make sure the car is worth doing as most of these things seem like a bargain and u end up paying more in the end then u would for one that isnt on the hit list

cheers

Rich

Dont forget that when it comes to selling the car on your find it very hard, as most people will walk away if they HPI check the car and find it written off. They wont list what damage only that the insurance people list it as a right off.

but you can alway get it cleared

Best to make them aware of the CAT

Yeah I had thought of that but for what its costing me selling it on isnt too much of an issue....especially as she'll probably drive it into a wall or summat anyway in due course....in fact - is there much point fixing the write off damage!!!!!??
