Old car v newish one (what to buy)
Just weighing up the pros and cons of buying say an S2 rs turbo v vectra gsi
S2 - cheaper, harder to find a good one
GSI - more expensive but newer, tons of stuff like power steering, air con etc etc
Thoughts?

Martyn,
to give you an idea..
Selling my sapph cos.
Buying a BMW 740 V8. 282bhp + if i chip it and do the air filter box mod, it'll be fairly nippy too.
comes with leather, auto (i have knee problems), air con etc etc. plus a V8 oh, and cheap too considering!

An S2 is still just a mk4 escort though
RS2000's are ok, not really that fast though are they? Ive already had a MK5 1.8i 16v escort and it was the worst escort ive owned....
I just fancy something abit newer instead of going for 12-15 year old fords!
As nice as S2's are, unless its has alot of cash spent on it its not going to break many records is it... vectra gsi is pretty fast standard, shit loads of extras, cheap for what it is and is alot newer

Thats what im thinking Neil, i know the gsi is slightly faster than the gsi, how do you recon it compares power wise to a stage 1 4x4 cossie?
Obviously going to be slower, but its is by a great deal?

You're asking the right man, as my cossie is a stage 1 4x4
Honestly, the SRi was nowhere near my cossie in terms of grunt and outright grip, but it was still a pretty competent car
Used to do 145 (speedo) pretty easily
CD player, Air Con, Traction Control, ABS that works (compared to an S2 lol) etc
Neil.

That S2 is very nice, but it isnt an everyday car is it!
The only way it will stay like that is if its hardly every driven and only used in the dry.
In reality its not different from any other S2 apart from the low mileage. It still doesnt have ABS (thats any good lol), power steering, air con, elec everything etc etc
And most importantly, isnt that fast either... a standard S2 is going to seem slow as shit after a cossie

Every day I would take the Vectra. But then I brought an Audi to be sensible with everyday. Great car and it's lovely to drive..
And it's being sold to fund a second RST as we are bored to tears with it.
Can't go too far wrong with a Vectra mate picked a V6 jobbie up for just Ł1000 not long ago. I assumed it would be a right snotter but I was sooo wrong. Lovely car.

Vectra SRi over a 17 year old MK4 Escort ALL day long..!!
If you must buy an RS, at least make it a proper one
Why Ford called the "S2" an "RS", I will never know.. Cheapens the rest of the range
Can anyone name any motorsport that the S2 competed in???
They should have stopped with the S1, a PROPER classic...!!
IMO

s2 rs is more of an rs than the rs2000 mk 5 escort! and the rs1800 festa and rs turbo festa! so dont pick on the s2! .......
anyway! why everyone is saying the gsi goes like shit of a shovel for i dont know! book power figures are like 160-170bhp! in a heavey car!
i use my s2 everyday! nothing wrong with it! well till about 14weeks ago when i blew a blade off the turbo! but that was due to a problem! the turbo was under 11months old! and it still aint on the road yet! hopefully start of next month!
