How safe is this? If somebody wants to transfer some money into my account to buy something? £400 ish.

I have people do this for most things.. its easier than paypal and seems safer to me... They need to know your sort code and account number though

its perfectly safe but some people dont like it due to worry about fraud, i have 2 accounts and 1 is for money transfers and then i transfer it straight into my other bank so they cant have anything if it was a problem which there has never been

Yep, as above, very safe Rick, but it does take 3 working days for most banks to show it on your balance, longer for building societys.

To do an instant transfer you need to do it by CHAPS but there will be a charge for this.

cos the address was wrong VIA the bank GOT my money back in the end
buT WAS MASSIVE PAIN IN THE ARSE

i use lloyds tsb for phone banking some phone operators ARE

why worry about it? every time you pay by cheque, you also give someone your account number and sort code. did anyone ever have anything happen?
