Hi mate,

mum and dad are always going over and if you have not got fly drive they always say don't hire one at the airport, way too expensive.

Get a taxi out of there and go to one down the road, there are plenty around and you will get a car a lot cheaper.

You taking a trip to the grand canyon, .

Seen the pics when parents went on the helicoper trip, amazing!!

Have a good trip.

Normally cheaper (with the multinationals anyway) to book online and pay before you go.

I used to work for Hertz so I'm a bit biased towards them but I've also used Dollar and Alamo.

Doesn't count for much but in one three-week trip Alamo had to swap me into replacement cars twice - the first one turned out to have a missing seatbelt (7 seat minivan, and no way to tie the baby seat down), and the second broke down in Philadelphia.

Hertz, book a 2 door coupe and you'll probably end up with a '05 mustang.

I've worked for a couple of the largest multi-nationals. I can second booking online, in advance, and not from an airport office.

All the car/harley hire companies ive used in the states are all SO professional compared to over here, its easy as anything to rent a car and the prices are really good (especially with the exchange rate as it is at the moment) you can also normally pick up from one place and drop off at another which is sometimes useful.

I'd just stuck to the big names like hertz that you can easily arrange online.

legal age to drive is as low as 16 IIRC (varies from state to state thoguh i think?), but you will struggle to hire a car if you are under 25 and i dont think you will manage it at all if you are under 21, if you do it will be really expensive i should think

Good job you are over 21 mate, or you wouldnt get a drink anywhere, they are REALLY strict on the dirnking laws over there.

I took cally over for her 19th birthday (4 years ago) and they wouldnt serve me without id and i was 26 at the time!

Yup my cousin who lives in New York warned me about this. Bit gutted for my mate who is 20 tbh Cant wait to get out there though. Going to Chicago first to watch england vs USA then flying to new york to watch england vs columbia

Is it best to pre-book internal flights or would i get a better deal out there?

Not sure on internal flights as if i wanted to go anywhere i just hired a car but i was only normally going a few hundred miles at most, they do one way rentals though which is cool, but the speeding fine wasnt, lol.

If he is 20 then he wont be allowed into most places that sell alcohol in the evening in the first place, thats what we found anyway.

Yeah very!! where are they going to play?? is it in Giant stadium?? that's like 15-20 mins from me

Deffo stick with the name car rentals and like Chip said, anyone under 21 and they're almost 90% certain they won't get into a pub.

I think generally if your under 25 / over 21 the car hire prices are about $17 a day more (with Dollar).

I used dollar and ordered the cheapest / smallest one when i booked the holiday. As we all know they never 'actually' have small cars over there so I got 2 upgrades for free saving about £75!!!! Got some Sebring thing which werent too bad!
