Default Solvol Autosol Metal Polish

We have all had lots of time to pamper our cars due to the lockdown. I was wondering how many others use the AUTOSOL metal polish when shining up their engine bay metal parts? It is brilliant stuff and it brings aluminium and stainless steel items up to look like chrome. I have used it from my Triton 650 motorbike and every fast ford I have owned since. Yes, you do get black stuff on your hands and it does take a fair bit of time but the end results are well worth the effort.

I’ve always used it too, it definitely does a nice job. Although I’ve now done everything satin black instead as I can’t be bothered to keep on top of the polishing

Wish I had the time, still at work everyday on breakdown patrol and a 6 year old to teach/entertain on days off. I use the same stuff for my stainless exhaust, comes up lovely.

I get a lot of satisfaction polishing up the parts but it does take a while.I find once everything is up to a nice standard it is not a lot of trouble to maintain it. We all like different things but for me cleaning and polishing has never been boring or a pain.

When I polished my RS alloys on my MK2 Escort many years ago I tried every product as I wanted the shiniest wheels ever and autosol was by far the best.

one of the reasons I never went for the chrome finish stuff under the bonnet of my saph was the cleaning of it lol its bad enough trying to keep the exterior and the interior clean

nice looking engine bay mate a credit to you. With regards to the auto sol metal polish it is good stuff but it is quite course, I use auto glym metal polish which is a bit softer and has a texture similar to tooth paste

One of the other things the Autosol is good for is removing scratches from paintwork as it is of course also a mild abrasive. I have always found polishing up the alloy and stainless steel very satisfying but we are all different.

Hi Glenn, hope you and the family are keeping safe. Maybe later on in the year when things get back to normal I will have to see if one of the car magazines might be interested in a feature on my old car!!

Same here, used it for years cos my dear old Dad used it on his cars when chrome bumpers and trim were all the rage, tried some modern equivilents, but they don't shine as good.

I use Autosol on mine too.
Seems to take ages but always comes up nicely on both cars.
It would be nice if there was an easier way to clean it tho

You are right, I have been using it for the last 50 years on motor bikes and cars and it is still the best one I reckon.

Looks amazing mate good work on the shiny bits. Yeah we're flat out with breakdowns mate. They cancelled all our overtime as they thought it would be quiet with lockdown but now they are asking us for more hours. but in my town the roads are so busy you would never know there was a lockdown going on.

I am suprised that there is so much traffic about, you are in Christchurch or Bournemouth area from memory. In theory there should be a lot less traffic about so do you think some people are just out for a drive or visiting your area from somewhere else?

MarkV8 Same as me, a long time ago when I had my Triton motorbike even the twin carbs where polished to a high shine!!! Every car ( fast Fords ) I have owned has always had the autosol used in the engine bays. It is a great product and over the years I must have bought hundreds of tubes!!!
