Ideal time if the roads are empty...but silly to suggest it isnt a proper record. I'm sure traffic levels 20, 30, whatever years ago were probably very low, just the cars and technology weren't the same to enable faster times.

But sadly public opinion of this sort of thing, especially in current times, do make it something a little less impressive and not to shout about.

Motorists and car enthusiasts are always under attack, and that sort of thing doesnt help.

And I wouldnt want to be anywhere near the M25 at any time lol

I did get some stick when I posted about the lack of traffic on the roads at the moment and what an enjoyable drive I had in my Saff to charge up the battery. The temptation is there to take advantage of it at the moment but it is not the right thing to be doing and you can bet the Police are going to be on the lookout for speeding cars!

Really, they need to get a fucking life and deal with important policing matters given the circumstances. If that's all they can find to do, it's about time there were lay offs.

Especially with cars still being stolen, houses getting broken into, businesses getting broken into etc.

Was set back in the late 80s / early 90s in a 911 turbo ( i think ) so the story goes . not much info about pre internet days.

Also pre cameras, police helicopters and pre police having real quick cars, less traffic. Oh and the m25 was a bit shorter to i think.

I took my daily out for a drive and will do once a week regardless of what’s going on. It’s not in use as I have my work van all the time. If you drive normally and your on your own no harm in it. There be a lot of people with problems if they don’t use there cars 6 weeks or so

I wondered whether someone will try the M25 with the current quiet roads. Remember in 2018 in the guy who did lands end to john o'groats in 9hrs 36mins in a Audi S5 averaging over 90mph. I recon the M25 could easily be done in 56 mins averaging 122mph. Not quite sure how you'd manage to get past all the cameras though!
Having said that, it would take a bloody good driver to manage such a high average speed for so long on public roads!

Where I keep my Saff there is no 240v power so I can't keep a trickle charger hooked up. I do have a solar powered one but the battery will still go flat if the car is not used for weeks at a time.I am with you on this as a drive out over not to long a distance will keep the battery charged and I am on my own, do not get out of the car or stop off anywhere so can't really see what harm I am doing.

Problem is if you break down someone like me has to go out and rescue you therefore putting myself and you at risk. You wouldn't believe how busy we are on breakdowns at the moment for people just going out for a drive.

A good solar should keep the battery ok as long as the battery is not connected to the car which would cause a drain. I've a cheap Chinese one hooked up to my old Volvo...and it could sit for several months without issue. Connect battery up, start car just fine. But if it's left connected to the battery, there's just too much drain in the car

In theory it sounds great but do you not think the cops have thought of this as well, and what about all the M25 speed cameras? The motorways have not been closed off and there will still be traffic which you cannot predict what they may do with a bike approaching them at 170Plus mph.!!!!

I think you maybe taking this bit of banter a bit too seriously!
I've already mentioned the cameras and the fact that you would have to be a very skilled driver / rider to maintain such high speeds for so long on public roads. Realistically I'm not sure it would even be possible even if you used false plates, or had a pregnant bird on board cos once you've pinged a few cameras in a row at 100mph+ then I'm sure it wouldn't be long before a helicopter was overhead and you were intercepted by the rozzers before you completed the lap.
The guy that did the lands end to john o'groats planned every detail over something like 6 months or more and even fitted a larger fuel tank to limit fuel stops. Even with all that planning I think he was extremely lucky to pull it off. Trying to do it on the M25, although it's a much shorter distance, I think would be near impossible purely because of the location and the technology on that stretch of road.
However, I'm sure there are some people out there who would be stupid enough to try.

Again, having said all that - easter sunday on lockdown is surely the best opportunity to give it a try ​​​​​​​

Having record attempts on public roads can work and be done safely. A couple of years back when the Isle of Man TT was on there was the Subaru Impreza turbo run on the closed roads TT circuit which was very impressive and is a good watch on YouTube.

I think the problem in a car would be the Dartford crossing. The cameras there are on all the time, which would wreck your average speed, even if you didn't get caught anywhere else. That and the fact that no one cares about people setting a record on the M25. Not exactly the Nurburgring is it

Exactly, and that's not exactly unlikely in an old Ford If you break down, someone will have to come and rescue you. If you have an accident, more people will have to come and rescue you and, if it's serious, you're then taking up hospital space which could be needed for someone with the virus. The risk is obviously low, but I should imagine anyone with half a conscious would feel pretty bad if they caused someone else to become seriously ill, just because they wanted to go out for a little drive.

If you're worried about your car battery, just disconnect it, then it won't go flat anyway.

A guy on his motorbike got caught doing 150mph on the M23 over Easter. The Cops seized his bike and I think they will come down hard on him! Thinking about it because the roads are so quiet at the moment you are more likely than at normal times to get caught for speeding.
