Diff ratios. MK1 ESCORT PROJECT.
Hi all. Im planning and collecting Parts for a Escort MK1 RS2000 replica. Its sitting on a Capri Rear Axle, so i was told! My query is it appears to have a diff ratio of 2.1?? Yes ive checked and double checked ...2.1 yes one wheel sitting on Ground ! Can anyone help with any information on this ratio. Im planning a 3.54.. Ronnie
ye when i told my mate it was 2.1 his reaction was " really keep it" . Very quick of the mark he recons. ts worth leaving i guess and if no good mid range ,top end then i'll source a 3.49.
2:1 would make it too long geared, your calculations must be wrong,3:75 is most popular and 4:1,higher the number the faster you will go through the gears ,but will make your top speed slower and obviously cruising speeds higher revs

more like lazy off the mark. The atlas came in a variety of different cwp ratios and best suited to what power you will run
ideally an atlas a 3.75 is a good all round road diff.
you need to mark the pinion cup and a road wheel and spin to get your ratio if its a johnny oner get a friend to hold the other wheel still

cheers for that .. I must have picked up wrong because he would deffo know the score on that. Your comment made me do some reading up on the sudject and your spot on. However im still lost as to why the diff has this ratio ! Im planning on type 9 gear box and a cossie spec engine around 250 bhp. Whats your thoughts pls and who or why fit a 2.1 diff ratio ( defo 2.1) cheers Ronnie

Iv never heard of a 2:1 diff before, but anything is possible as the atlas was fitted too a variety of cars and vans here and other countries. as already said 3;75 is the most popular, I run a 3;75 in my capri with a t5 box, I wouldn't run a type 9 at the rear of a cosworth though wont last long.
