Default Blue Bolt / Fastener, Colour Detailing and Reference Number Stickers

Hi All

I have a few questions with regards to detailing a vehicle during the build, rebuild, re-condition, re-assemble process.

Application: Ford Sierra Sapphire - non Cosworth model to 4x4 2.9 v 6 Cosworth bob with Cosworth body kit etc. & also general ford models

1) Blue Bolt

a) Why are there some fasteners / bolts that are blue coated. What does this mean?

b) Where would I find info & layout on refitting these blue coated fasteners?

2) Vehicle Colour Detailing

a) Where can I find correct colour coding specs as per factory or OEM to all the attachments of the vehicle? IE
- colour of brake pipes
- colour of suspension parts
- colour of gearbox
- colour of drive shafts
- colour of diff
- and so the list goes on........

3) Number Reference Stickers

I've seen on some threads that guys renew reference stickers under the vehicle and on some certain parts. I've also seen it on my own vehicle when I disassembled it.

a) What is the purpose of these stickers?
b) Is there a layout or plan of reapplying these stickers to give vehicle factory finish?

I am asking these questions as would like to put these minor details as close to as possible to OEM finish. My sapph is completely stripped down and body work and paint is almost complete. When I start to re-assemble, I want to get the detailing correct.

Advice and suggestions?

Cheers

Hi All

Further to the above I saw on Cozzy Jeffs moonstone 3dr Thread, post No. #1001 regarding the QC stickers

Does anyone know exactly where these suppose to go?

I've seen on some various parts there are different color paint marks. Has this also to do with the QC inspection from Ford before vehicle leaves factory?

Does anyone have info on the blue bolts. ie the steering wheel bolt, the bolts on the hubs etc.

Is there like specifications to these QC aspects?

Cheers

Thank you Costina. Do you perhaps have a list of which bolts are painted in this colour?

Plus somone tagged this post very unsporting like. Personally every person who builds there car has a different take or different edge and perception on how they want it done. I want my car done in a specific way to my requirements and willing to learn and get ideas from experts or people who know what they are talking about.

Cheers

Brake caliper bolts and rear hub bolts are deffo blue some beam bolts are too.
Most black stuff is powder coated semi gloss black
Hubs are usually gold zinc plated.

Hi Sotvispan

Please elaborate a bit further. I'm not a full on engineer but I guess you referring to as high tensile or mild steel grade?

Hi,

Yes it is the tensile strength i mean, "standard" bolts are 8.8 quality often zinc plated.
10.9 are blue painted and i think 12.9 is red painted but these are not very common on these cars.

Note that this is only on 80`s ford cars so its not a generall rule.

Thanks for clearing that one up. I have to ask the question as per Pauls list on where these bolts go, for the Sapph, is this 10.9 grade applied only on those areas.

Brake caliper bolts: 10.9 blue
rear hub bolts: 10.9 blue
Rear prop bolts: 10.9 blue
Steering wheel : 10.9 blue
rear beam bolts : 10.9 blue

If I use the common or standard 8.8 grade through out the vehicle to replace bolts and nuts that I've lost or couldn't fined, besides parts of the engine and to the exception of the above, it should be fine?'

My aim is to not use any old fastener but to come as close to OEM or what they would have used in factory during assembly.

Cheers
