Default Power steering stuff when cold?

Once I've turned out a few times it's fine, but even if I leave the engine running fit a few minutes it's still almost impossible to turn at first and then it's a bit notchy and then 30 seconds later it's fine

Levels are fine

On my mk 6 Fiesta

its either the pump or the rack shagged both can give similar probs is the pump noisey as fuk if not i would lean more towards the rack to keep cost down buy a recon rack get a second hand pump i did a 306 pug once and thepump chewed one of the seals up pushed it in the rack the rack have fine mesh gauses in them blocked it up check your power steering pipes arnt pinched or the banjows arnt kinked asumeing its not electric

Drain some fluid out of the bottle and see if there is a gauze filter in there. If so it's probably clogged. Take the bottle out and clean it with degreaser and the wife's toothbrush. That'll teach her for stitching you up with the mother in law.

The pump is quiet as a mouse

And after a few turns the rack is as good as gold

It's a bit cold to do anything else at the moment so I'm waiting for it to break and then get the AA to fix it

"Get the AA to fix it" that's a laugh dojj! All they do these days is send three people to look at it before they stick you on a flat bed and take you home.

Tottaly different but the steering fluid on are old fork lift had never been changed. One winter turns out it was contaminated with water we guessed it must have been condensation from the oil getting hot and cold over the years. It froze one winter and fucked the pump and its drive gear.

Same thing happened to my mates saph cos, he has a stainless p/s tank and it always seemed to condensate inside and then the p/s fluid milky. I've mentioned it to a couple of people on theirs. He's gone through a pump and rack now

The steering oil in are fork lift looked like pink slush puppy lol. I did the job engine out torque converter off then the gear that drove the pump was chain driven off the crank. Gear was repaired via spray metal as the splines inside that the pump shaft sat in had stripped

Yep exactly what my mates fluid kept going like. Told him to get rid of the stainless tank and it hasn't done It since.
