Friend of mine is a chartered accountant and another one is a chartered engineer....but I don't really speak to these guys anymore, as their losers!!
Is there any chartered designers out there?? if such a thing?!?!?
Think this would boost my carreer also!!! plus I fancy some more letters after my name!!
regards!!

I'm chartered
BEng(Hons) CEng MIMechE DIS
Annual membership is Ł160 there are a lot of benefits which I personally don't take advantage of . The main one is when it comes to look for another Job.
I'm looking to join the Energy Institute too, but haven't got off my arse as most of these places need a fair amount of reports and paper work upfront, and I don't have the time.

Whichever industry you are in, there is usually some "body" regulating it.
In the case of ENgineering its the Engineering Council, they allow the Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Institutes to set the standards of what a chartered engineer in that field should be capable of. They then monitor you and test you.
I was on the IMechE scheme for 4 years, which is about the usual length of time when you come out of Uni. I had to write quarterly reports and then sit an Interview at the Institute.
If you are someone who has been doing a job for a while, then you can just write up all the work you have done and present it, then have an interview. But you need that experience behind you to demonstrate your competancy.
In your case what sort of design is it?. I would have thought there would be some form of Art based organisation unless its more technical design in which one of the engineering institutes may cover the work you are doing.
Hope that helps

Paul,
MiMechE is quite a high / good qualification for engineering isnt it?
It was something i was considering doing when i was going to tread the engineering route... but stupidly went IT instead

But this is specifically MECHANICAL engineering. If I was electrical I would be a member of the IEE = MIEE, etc. Which ever organisation/field you are in they all give you the CEng which is the important part.
You can also be Assoiciate members of these whilst working up to the full membership so in my case, before I was chartered I was AMIMechE, which is actually more letters

different I know but
you see all thses people leave school.. goto college, go do a degree, get in shit loads of bebt.. then end not knowing what they want to do etc..
End up working in Maccy D's, or Blockbusters or Off Liscences..
Best thing I ever did was leave school, go straight into employment, and then a day release etc.. So thats, cash and training..
Sorry bit off topic, but wanted to share that with you
