Default worrying wobble :-(

i have had this annoying wobble for a while now.. when pulling off it is fine and also when driving slow it is fine but when you put the car under load there is a wobbling coming from the centre of the car !
I ahve had a look round underneath and everything looks ok the only thing i noticed was there is a bit of play in the front prop and also play in the carrier for the rear prop ( think its called a carrier ! ).
should this play be there and what could cause the wobble if this is not it ??
please help because this is driving me mad... its not a pleasure to drive when its like this

the car is a '95 small turbo escos..

Thanks
Matt...

If the front prop has play in it replace it now or it will do a lot of damage to your wallett!

its not actually play in the prop but looks as if it is in the transfer box! where the front prop goes in! if that is the transfer box on the tail of the gearbox ?

Ahh ok can you elaborate on what this wobble feels like then? If it is more of a noise then a physical wobble then the front prop could be catching the exhaust or the drop gear chain could be fooked!

ok its not the exhaust !!if i wrap my hand around the front prop and twist it there is a lot of play and it seems like you can hear internal noises when you twist it back and forth... all the bushes are new, i have recently put a vibratechnics gearbox mount on the car and it seems like it has made it worse !! i think its because the rubber is not taking the wobble ! the car is
i know its gonna be something expensive i would just like to know what

My favourite is still the chain for the drop gears being fooked and slapping around under load then!

The reason i am suggesting this as a possible problem is that i had the same (from your description of it) 'wobbling' sensation in my 4x4 once and this turned out to be the reason. Your best bet is to call Berni the gearbox man see if he can shed any light on it. His number etc..are in his banner ad at the top of this page or go to www.gearboxman.co.uk

have a look at the prop (BOTH) UJ's, use a good lamp spin em round, look for signs of rust staining, if the front prop uj is failing (common) it will show rust and the rust will run out the uj when it gets wet if you get me,

when you twisted it as described above, what you need to be sure of is that the uj moves as the prp does.. if there is play thats the problem, the rattle noise when you rock it back and forth is usual mate (though not excessive)
