Default Cossie fuel pump wireing

How easy is it to change?!?! Any diagrams would help or info on where it runs ie under the car or thru the car etc!!

Took the car 2 get it set up today and was leaning out, and they found out when u rev it the voltage drops at the pump so reckon its pobabaly the wireing and need 2 replace it all. Should fix the slight miss off boost aswell hopefully.

Just need an idea where the wires run etc before i do it!!

Cheers peeps

Would be a good idea to run a switched relay straight off battery for this now while your doing it mate.

1.Dig out your spare wheel.
2.Locate fuel cut off switch under spare wheel.
3.Trace wiring off cutoff switch through boot floor.
4.Replace this wiring with better wire to the fuel pump.(May have to drop tank down as the wire is taped in with fuel sender wire.)
5.Run suitable gauge wire from battery MAKING SURE it is fused within 18"'s of battery
6.Wire up 40amp 4 pin relay using old wiring off fuel cut off switch as the switch wire on relay and earth as appropriate.
7.Check to see if engine runs and you haven't triggered fuel cut off switch.
8.Replace spare wheel.(Pat your self on back)

Put Tea Break in between any of the numbered column's when you feel like it.

Any more questions fell free to ask

I think most ppl are doing it now when running bigger power as do you really want to trust nearly 20 year old wiring on a Ł????'s engine when it will only cost about Ł20 to change it.

Only bit im not sure about is no.6 about wireing in a relay, why u need to do that mate?! That bits confused me

Also i take it theres an original wire running from the battery to the pump?! does that run to it from inside the car or underneath?! and do u just leave it in place or rip it out?!

Your wiring in a relay so you have a direct feed of power off battery but it is being switched on my the original wire that is in car and not up to the job anymore.
Replace the wiring from relay to pump. This will start in boot and run through grommet and on to fuel pump. Now you have all new wiring from battery to pump.
But being switched with original wiring that ford gave you.
The wiring ford gave you to start with wasnt very good so after nearly 20 years it is passed it sell by date.BUT will be OK to switch relay.

As your using a 40 amp relay a 40 amp fuse will be suitable.

Do it this way you are still using the original relay but only as a switch so shouldn't burn out as some do because of the dodgy wiring.
