Default Are towbars programmed?

Evening

I have bought a 2011 grand Cmax and it has a Witter towbar with single electrics that I would like to remove as I have no need for it.

Are the electrics just plugged in or is it a bit more complex than that? The car has the automatic park assist feature which I presume is set not to opertate while towing, so not sure if just unplugging it will cause any problems.

Thanks for any help

Rich

I would of said it was just all plugged in. Or even with scotch locks lol.

With cars these days it might be more than that.

Have you put the mondeo back to standard then to trade it in.

its likely to be programed into the ecu, I know its a bit more modern but a mate has just got a 15 plate VW t5 and wants to fit a tow bar and that needs the ecu up dating apparently it also affects the braking performance when towing, the days of scotch locking are long gone.

Thanks for that, I will have a look at how it is all fitted in then go from there. I've been on a few sites that sell them and you can either buy a universal electrics kit or a vehicle specific kit, so will have to see. I had a mk3 Mondeo that had the wiring scotch locked in, looked a right mess!

Yes glenny all standard now apart from the kit that is glued on. Got all the sound system out and the wheels off. Got some serious ebaying to do!

If it's not a Ford towbar you should be fine. Nothing you do will disable the car. Just take it off and see what happens.

It depends on how it's been fitted, but if it's CANBUS, yes, it's programmed.

Yes thanks for that, I am hoping to see a load of scotch locks and not any fancy modules!

No running off the standard headunit as it has the nav, Bluetooth and climate etc. Used a signal processor to feed the amps!

It takes the signal from the headunit, which usually has its bass turned down etc to save the standard speakers, and converts it to a perfectly flat signal for the amps to amplify, so you aren't just amplifying shit from the standard headunit.
