Cat B blue cosworth on coparts
just browsing coparts (part of my job) and found this
Tempted to bid and reshell it is there any differences on a standard Sierra she'll to cosworth (major)
Or will it make more breaking it?

If that mileage is correct it would have loads of sought after parts which should be in very good condition. Depends on how much it can be bought for?
If it was re-built using another Sapphire Cosworth shell would it still be able to be described as a 23,481 mile car?

Owner would have been paid a bit for that, going by today's prices http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2318390076...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I think the wall was the winner of the crash!

I'm not sure what happens now the vic scheme has gone, but when I was vic testing cat a and b cars had a more lengthy test.
The point of no return is a cod (certificate of destruction) marker which supposed to be issued as the car gets destroyed.
Once it has a cod marker that's it and there is no going back.
I heard about a rare Morgan, on one of the many vosa courses I did, that had somehow stayed alive with a cod marker and the guy who managed to get it painfully restored the car at massive expense only to be told it had to be destroyed when he tried to tax it, there was nothing at all he could do with the Id the car had.
Wounder lol

No it doesn't you can put any back on the road, the cat marker is only an advisory and legally means nothing. Has a drastic effect on the cars value though.

Nice donor for a bare shell with ID rebuild, used to be plenty of them around for buttons, all seem to have vanished these days.
The problem with cat B rebuilds is if you later have to make an insurance claim, they wont pay out. The car is effectively worthless as a result, so has to be broken to recover any money, if its burned out or stolen then there is nothing to sell!

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Anyone who thinks a 27 yr old smashed up Sierra had only done > 25,000 miles needs there head examined - it's going to be 225,000 miles or maybe 125,000 miles (if you are lucky).

Whys that then and what difference does it make if its 'smashed up' ?? I have a 27 yr old BMW 6 series that has a genuine 40k (would be a lot less if I hadn't driven it to Spain several times) and a Firenza that's 44 yrs old with 32k miles on it and there's no reason why that Sapphire couldn't have 27k genuine. The likelihood of it being 27k and not 127 isn't high but its entirely possible.

Yes,2wd cosworths all had plain non vented bonnets as standard and they changed when the 4x4 was released.
I'm searching high and low for a plain pre 1990 sapphire bonnet for my genuine 35000 mile 26 year old saph if anybody has 1.
That car could have had any history, stolen recovered with no interior, previously a track car but it looks very very nice and could well be 23000 miles going by the pics.
It's got a few bent panels and I can't see big chunks of filler falling out so it's been looked after if it's 123000 miles.

Yea that's my thinking, although i've saw full shells minus engine and running gear for between 4-6K recently...i'd imagine there would be a good few bits you could sell if you found a good trimmed shell.
