Default Breakdown Cover

Hi all.

I am looking for breakdown cover and the generic breakdown companies such as Green flag, AA and the RAC are a few quid nowadays!

Has anyone used anyone else as I put a comparison search into Compare the market etc and there are loads of other breakdown services out there who are a lot cheaper!

Or are they cheap for a reason?

Thanks all!

Avoid the RAC

I called them and advised the failure was catastrophic and it needed recovery not a man with a van. The bloke was snotty but seemed fine when I explained I built it and the failure. 3 hours later a van arrives and the chap quickly establishes that the car was fucked and needed recovery.

3 more hours pass when a miserable git turns up telling me modified cars should be illegal as they make his job hard and he promptly fucked my handbrake by swinging on it until it was pointing at the ceiling (handbrake's never great on these cars).

When I complained to the RAC their investigation seemed to consist of a short phone call;

RAC - Did you behave like a massive cunt and damage the car
Git - Na mate, I was a proper gentleman.
RAC - Thanks for clearing that up.

Not had so much as a sorry for the 6 hour wait or the damage. I would rather shit into my hands and clap than recommend them.

Yet for me the rac have been brilliant the couple of times I've used them, even went as far as replacing a wheel bearing on the wife's fiesta at the side of the road when it collapsed. Took the guy about 3 hours start to finish when they could have just recovered it.

they are like insurance companys no point in this day and age of loyalty as it does you no favors, get best deal you can 1st time and then dont renew and go to a rival for less then following year they will offer better deal as new customer and you end up going back, shop around

I'm with flux,european aswell.
Not broke yet though

Used to use AA,european cover to home. When i asked what if i broke down in say, middle of spain, whats the procedure. They replied,"the car would be taken to a local garage, looked at,and see if it could be repaired."ah i said,to that i replied"what if my cosworth engine melted and it were a no go",they replied"you would have to fix it there".
Basically, they would only recover home,if it was completly un-repairable,ie in a crash.
