To be honest, if I was going to buy a car at the far end of the country , regardless of being a reputed dealer, I would have had an independent inspection done. The car is 7 years old, so not that young. As for the faults, I am sure he would be just wanting to punt this back out asap, as was only a trade in. I can understand your frustration with it, but I was always told to try every switch and button when checking a second hand car, which I did when my mate bought a 2008 TT last week. See if he comes back to you , but we haven't used tax discs for over a year now, so as for a windscreen, you may need to claim on your insurance as damaged and see if he might pay the excess, as it wont affect your no claims.

You are missing my point.

The faults are easily sorted, the money doesn't really matter either. The fact that he has not answered my calls, replied to texts, replied to emails, replied on eBay at least to explain he didn't know about the purposely hidden faults makes me think he knew about them and covered the engine light etc. If he didn't, why would you completely ignore someone? I would much rather he had the balls to reply and say "you are getting nothing". I would have more respect for that.

As for the windscreen, the road tax holder was purposely placed in a funny place so that the crack could not be seen, it was not until I removed it that it could be. I.e he (or someone else) put it there to cover the crack.

In a ideal world a car bought from a dealer would be as stated, reputation and homework are important factors in this day and age and failure to do this opens yourself up to a shafting, its hardly a newsflash item a alleged car dealer has taken someone for a ride and I would be pretty upset myself in your shoes but I would do as suggested above especially with that sort of distance and costing involved

What have ebay said about the situation? Have you opened a dispute case? If you can with a car sale,I'm not sure.

Make sure you take him to court and not the company, if you take the company to court he could fold and then you would have a lot more headache....

The only thing you could defend the trader on is that it was a trade in he was just punting on. U may also probably find it was the guy who traded it in to the trader that hid all the faults, traders just normally look at the car, Rev it up and check the history and mileage and take a punt on it. Buying a car you've never seen is also a rookie mistake; never part with any money untill you've checked the car over with it in front of you. Him not replying to your messages is out of order and he should contact u to see how he can help out. Bloody motor trade is full of schemers and assholes round every corner

Have you tried contacting him on a PAYG sim card as you might get more response if you enquire about something he has for sale?

Make sure you keep a detailed record of any contact you've tried having with him, even if he does not respond.

He probably thinks you will drop it considering the distance the cars gone, i'm sure there is a time limit you can return the car for a refund

My take on this is that you are buying a used car and expecting it to be in new condition..
You buy used cars with they undrsatnding that they may be issues, covered up or not
Thats why people buy new so they dont have hidden faults and are covered by a manufactures warrenty properly.
what if the trader bought the car at auction and didn't notice the black tape on himself?

He should at least answer calls or emails surely? Sounds like the trader is well aware of the faults from the lack of response.

Chance you take buying a used car though, been there done it.The dealer I bought from was local though and picked up the bill for the work needed as I was at his door rather than the other end of the country.

I know Glenn personally, I run Surrey sierra spares round the corner from him. All I've ever heard is good things about the cars he sells and he does have a very good reputation. I've worked on a few of his sales cars before and they have always been top examples.

I'm pretty sure he usually goes away this time of year.

This GSM guy just made a supid offer on a car I had for sale on eBay. I told him nicely that he wouldn't be buying it for that money.
