roll cage issue mk4 rst
having a few issues fitting the roll cage to the rst
its an OMP, designed for the non sunroof model but the car will be getting a carbon roof anyway
We got the rear half into a position that seems right, it cant really go any further back or higher up, but I can't see how the front is ever going to fit, it hits the roof just behind the windscreen and the arms going to the rear half seem way too long, they're pre drilled for where they meet the rear cage so surely they dont need to be cut to length?
does anyone who's got experience with these have any idea where I'm going wrong?
any advice would be much appreciated!
i've attached pics to try and show what I mean

The cage should touch the roof by the windscreen. They are made to fit tight to the shell. It looks like the bolt holes line up so does the front half of the cage not slot inside the rear then bolt through? That's what it looks like it should do, or is the issue that you can't do this?...
If that's how it should fit I would suggest trying to pull the front legs forwards, maybe, then push them back into place as they locate into the rear.
Maybe get a ratchet strap around the front legs to pull them in slightly, might give you those extra fee mm's you need.

I had/have same issue,,
I was only dummy fitting it, its still not in yet,
I got rear half mounted like you said then the front half was a nightmare,
Like muz says use ratchet straps etc to pull legs in, it will fit but it is a pain!
Either that or sell cage and buy a safety devices one, they seem to be a easier fit, bit better designed!
Good luck!

Are they expecting you to weld that front section to those stubs ?
Would never have thought a butt weld join like that be legal or approved ?
If you need more wiggle room, cut holes in the floor to allow the drop bars to fall through the holes and give you far better access to the upper parts of the cage. You'll be re-welding and bracing or boxing the floor anyway so the holes wont matter.
And why are the front drop bars so rearwards ? Looks like they'd be far better placed much further forward. Almost looks like one of those dash dodger type cages
Main hoop looks like it would be much better further back too ?
Is it for the right car ? lol

I've had x2 rollcentre full cages for two of my previous rst's, were a pain in the ass to fit but did go in ok, fitted well and looked awesome!

Maybe I should have been clearer, there are sleeves that both halves bolt inside, i.e they butt up against each other inside a sleeve, which they are then bolted through.
I'll try ratcheting the legs together but I cant see how it will move it far enough for it to fit properly lol
It is indeed a 'dash dodger', goes down to the floor infront of the dash
I'll take more pictures tomorrow
the cage is going to be modified/added to anyway so its not the end of the world if it doesn't fit as standard but its a bit annoying
I really must start a build diary lol

In that case, I don't have a fucking clue! It looks too long to butt together in the pictures?! And if if won't move any further back or forwards then I'm stumped.
One thing I would do, though, before you start manhandling it, is slide that joining sleeve onto the front section and tape it down because if you manage to get it to fit you'll have to separate it again to get the sleeve on.

Well after lots of ratcheting and swearing I got it to 'nearly' fit, although it just didn't look right and I don't think I'd ever have got the windscreen in, the whole front half just seemed to far forward and the bottom legs would never have been able to go out to the sides

So we decided to take matters into our own hands, there was no way it was going to fit as it was so we removed 87mm from the top bars, allowing it to fit in a much better position, still not sure why it wouldn't fit but at least we've made some progress now

I'm amazed you had to cut it to get it to fit, but maybe they did mess up the measurements on this cage on a fluke?
It doesn't look as if the car has had oversills etc welded on, either.
Bear in mind you would have had to sit the cage on floor plates which are a minimum of 3mm thick so even less space again.
Doesn't lol a bad fit now it's chopped though.
