Default steve scotts engine for the fiesta exh manifold question

did he make the tubular exhaust manifold for that engine or is it a one of

due to not many people making them and i was wondering why

whats the average cost for a tubular manifold and who can make them

what would the differences be between a 2wd one as these arnt far behind

also what about the rumours of them cracking why is this?

thanks for the advice and help

prices can vary, from £400 to £800, they only crack if there covered in heat wrap from what i hear, best of covering from down pipe back, not actual manifold

and suppose movement when coming on boost hard, would need a turbo brace to stop movent

any other comments

id imagine they would be a bit more complex than a rst?

does his one run an external wastegate aswell

because thats what i will be using

but dont want the hassle of always maintainig the 2wd one due to bolts snapping all the time

Ranj,
The one in your picture above is the OLD design (which is the same as Rod's and is the one that cracks ), did so even on running in program on the dyno .

The corrected design looks like this (note change of wastegate from single tube to twin) . They have yet to have a single failure with this design, whereas all of the single type ones have all cracked so far .

These are £1100 (inc delivery) and take in excess of 40 hours each to make up (to your turbo / wastegate flange spec).

I have some nice photos of Steve's one, but won't put them up unless I have his permission to do so .

Personally would have thought the issues were down to vibration / support (or lack of) and materials used...

The welding and shinyness doesn't look brilliant to me...

The dude that welded oli's up is going to do outs and the welding is truly amazing, as this guy welds up aerospace stuff, you can imagine the level of work.

Dingly,
Well shows that what you "thought" is wrong . It is also down to design . The NVH on a Cossie is horrendous and yes it does have to be supported, but even with this in place, the single tube waste-gate design cracks. The twin item doesn't .

Which part of support don't you understand mike....?

Single is less than twin init ?

Surely its still a combination of everything rather than just the fact they now use a twin system... ?

Tubular manifolds crack @ the head and turbo flange also.

By support I assumed you meant a physical hanger / support, not by the nature of it's design .

Yes, also the heat is spread over a greater area.

When directly supported, the wastegate tube still cracks around where it is welded to the main manifold. With the twin system, it does not.

These ones do not (well not in 20k of testing so far) .

What Kind of testing ?

I am not interested in one cause they wouldn't fit in my car, just insterested in tests done...

Support - means support regardless of how you read it

Steve,
Whatever - talk to the hand .

These manifolds are currently on in excess of ten road cars and two rally-cross cars, all above 600bhp and all abused on track and road and none of the twin systems have cracked (as yet), and some have been on the cars for over two years...

Ranj,
If it is the one in the photo above, then I know of two that have (one being Rods ), and as they're the only two out of three that have ever been made and run on a car to this design (yours being the third one that hasn't run yet ), I rest my case .

Mike, ive talked long & hard to Tomas on this subject. Ranjs was different to the mine & this design has not as yet had probs, but we shall see.
If he was not confident of it, he would replace with new design as he did mine, he also put mine on a t4 flange for better flow up to 800bhp, their after sales has been great.
Cheers Rod
