Mk1 Focus RS Smoking On Over Run
Chaps any advice on this one really appreciated..
Bought a FRS knowing that it smoked on over run... Pulled the down pipe off the turbo today and its bone dry (same on inlet).
Been googling about a crankcase breather but can only find the inlet behind the throttle body this does have a one way valve that appears to be working.
So im guessing valve stem oil seals or worst case piston rings...?
The car does not smoke in the slightest on or off throttle (off boost) , doesn't smoke on boost but on over run after smokes for about 5-10 secs in rear view mirror.
Any help to point in the right direction.
Thnaks

Shes done 60odd
no piston slap no funny noise, sounds sweet as a nut.
Smoke is bad enough to see in rear view mirror.
Would turbo show oil in exhaust housing if passing? or would it get instantly burnt off

I had this coupled with occasional smoking when 1st started and smoking after long periods on idle when engine was hot! I changed stem seals using bore compression kit save taking the head off and it made no difference, turned out to be 2 leaking valve guides on cylinder 1! There was 2 brown stains on the ports down to the compression chamber where is had been leaking, it destroyed both exhaust valves also started to melt the edge of the piston! Will try and get some pics up

Take the plugs out and see if any of them have fouled up, mine kept eating spark plugs too on cylinder 1 so i knew my issue was there and not turbo related

Turbo shaft has very slight play. But turbo is pretty fresh from sabre and looks bone dry.
Thanks mate. Ill check plugs , always a good indicator. Im pretty resigned to removing head anyway.
