Default Advice needed for correct fitting MSD chip!

Hi,

Today I received a new chip with encrypted key from Motorsport Developments.

When fitting it in the ECU I noticed that the encrypted key is reversed fitted compared to the old chip with encrypted key. If I fit it this way the cover will not fit.

So I need advise from people who have the same encrypted key (with the yellow blob on it) and how it should be fitted.

Maybe this new chip has been fitted reversed on the new encrypted key and therefor I dont want to take the chance to blow it.

Here is a picture from my old chip on encrypted key fitted in the ECU (right) and the new one I received (left):

And here is the new (bottom) and old encrypted key (top):

I have tried to reach MSD but today they are closed.
I hope to get the right fitting instruction so I can fit it savely.

Ok thanks James. But with this new key the chip is mounted a bit more to the upperside (if you know what I mean) and therefor it sits a little bit higher up the ECU. About 2mm. So the cover hits the chip when trying to fit it back on the ECU.

Doesnt this damage the chip or any other component due to mechanical stress?

The board inside is already modified and cant go any lower.

They are tight, make sure the mod is done as much as possible to allow the board to sit right down, and the lid is dished slightly so will be ok.

Ok done this like you descibed and tried it on the car. I have put a little tape on the inside of the lid to protect it and it works fine.

I had a similar problem when fitting their chip and wasted spark driver. Simple solution , just make a thicker gasket for the lid of your ECU and it will then clear it ok.
