For Better Or Worse?

Opinions Please
It's pretty obvious that the modding "scene" is a completely different animal from what it was 10 or 15 years ago
I know you got hoardes of sh1tpiece Saxos and Novas taking over the place, but ignore them, just talking about real modding.
There's still a massive following of the old-skool. Plenty of sweet MK1/2 Escorts etc, and real enthusiasts are starting to appreciate them a lot more now. When they could be picked up for a few hundred quid, they were being ruined. I vaguely remember the era of every 19 year old whacking a 1.6 Crossflow from an Escort in his Chevette and it's obvious times have changed.
Look back at issues of Fast Ford from 1994/1995 and some of the cars, mainly with tiger stripes and godawful alloys look, quite frankly, shite, but they do have a lot of charm
So, do you think the 21st century and all hi-tech chippery, Nitrous and big turbo chargers has changed things for better or worse?
Cars are obviously getting faster, but has some of the "everyman" charm been taken away.
Personally, I think things have changed for the better on the whole. Some of these show cars that don't even turn a wheel are stupid IMO cos while they may show off a company's talents, it ain't a "car" and is therefore pointless.
It's good to look back at the old days and always love to see the retro cars being done well and maintained meticulously, but I like the way things have progressed too
Thoughts?

I think people have a lot more options available to them now to try what they want to do with their car. The 'modding scene' should not dictate what they should do to be 'cool' etc. People should try whatever they want, that is the whole point of modding is it not?

It ain't cheap by any means, and puts a lot of people off taking their car's performance etc to the max.
But for 10k spent on Joe Average's everyday car's performance, it should topple some cars worth 10 times that
