Default k jetronic injection setup

as above rebuilt my mk3 xr3i after 2 years and she wont start, will fire but cuts out after 1-2 seconds.decent spark fuel at top of metering head and cold start valve will fire a little longer on easy start maybe 3-4 secs so def a fuel issue.is there a start point for setting these injections up i know they can be very sensitive but have already tried a little adjustment either way and nothing .any help with this issue would be great, cheers matty

Default xr3i

firstly check fuel getting to metering head at correct pressure-then moving plate check it comes out of all the fuel outlets
you need to bridge the fuel relay or put a constant live to get the pump running when you want rather than when engine is running
have seen these with all 4 injectors crudded up-same as vw golf gti[although they are worse as tank filler neck rots/falls into it] check flow into bottles[safely now...]
metering head needs to be spotless as does all the rest-plate has to be in correct place in cone
fuel pressure has to be right too

theres a lot of pressure so dont think thats an issue cracked one of the nuts off the top of the metering head with engine/ignition of and it sprayed everywhere .i have bridged the realy due to it being pretty knackered anyway the car onle has a genuine 55k so would think the injection is ok,cheers

dont make any assumptions based on milage whatsoever, check fuel is getting to and spraying from the injectors-they are generally not hard to remove, check flow/pattern

Sounds like it's starting and running on the cold start valve, then as that switches off it's cutting out. I forget exctly how it all works as haven't looked at one for a while but sounds to me like the warm up regulator is kaput

http://www.bosch-automotive-traditio...it_teaser.html

have a read. It basically lowers control pressure which raises fuel pressure to injectors when the engine is cold, as the engine warms up the bi-metalic strip inside the regulator changed and in turn raises control pressure to lower fuel pressure as it's no longer needing extra fuel for warm up.

does the car start, run for a few seconds...cut out then is very difficult to re-start or doesn't start again until it's cold? if so....thats the problem i'd bank on.

p.s. an easy way to check if injectors are working and at a decent pressure is to bridge the relay so fuel pump runs, push the metering flap down and the injectors let off a "squeel" as fuel flow through at high pressure.

cheers mate what your describing is my symptoms exactly.starts when cold runs for a bit then it can be very difficult to start and if you do get it gong you have to be constantly on throttle to keep it going .so which part exactly is the warm up regulator the little box in front of the inlet manifold with 2 fuel lines going to it? i have been adjusting the co screw and thats probably not helped at all either if thats not been the issue in the first place , cheers matty

Not 100% sure where they are located on an xr3i but if you look at the link I posted it looks exactly like the part pictured. it has a 2 pin plug and 2 fuel lines going to it. it will be bolted to something on the engine so it can react to temperature.

yea the adjustment of the screw won't help either, you may get it to run but once you replace the warm up reg it will be away to pot and will need set up anyway.

There is a company down south that refurbishes these warm up regs, I forget their name however sure a google search would reveal.
