i have a sapphire 4x4 and want to get the engine rebuilt
i from manchester area
can anyone suggest a good pace local to get it done

You need to pick the engine builder very carefully. If you can get it out of the car yourself then I would try to ignore the geography and send it to a recommended and trusted source, a badly built engine (especially Cosworth) could cost £3000 and then much more again to have the remedial work done if it lets go. Just hire a van and go on a road trip or maybe stick it on a pallet / call a courier

I would personally recommend Mark Shead at MAD developments.
I know Harvey Gibbs has a good reputation. You may find that Reyland can recommend someone now that they do not do this stuff anymore and I expect MSD could sort you out.

A rebuild done right is £3500 before you do any upgrades. It is worth having it long studded whilst apart and consider pistons for a bigger cam whilst it is apart.

If I were after a build I'd go to Mark @ M.A.Developments, I've used him for over 9 yrs and his work is superb and he's also very approachable too.

I'm in the process of doing one. But if I was to let someone else do it I'd be happy to send it to Harvey Gibbs, Mark Shead, or Tony. All have good reps.

As a note said above do what you can now pistons valve pockets, long studding etc etc.
