Default Not using wipers

Please can someone explain this. We were all driving back from a show a little while back and some of the guys in the Rsoc weren't using there wipers even though it was torrential rain! I asked why they not using them and no one had a straight answer and one guy said I don't use my washers in case the screen wash rots the window rubbers. I was gobsmacked I've never heard anything like it in my life. What are these people on lol?

Lol I just use plain water in my washer bottle, no marks on the bodywork where the water runs onto the roof and dries.

Rain-X as said - don't need wipers on if at a decent pace as the water just flies off.

Lol true mate. I remember the first time me and my mate went to ford fair we came accross a nice escos with a massive turbo and loadsa stainless stuff looked awesome. We got talking to the bloke and asked how much power he was running and he said it was over 500bhp. Suitably impressed my mate then asked "bloody hell what does it go like I bet it's mental" to which the bloke replies " don't know I've never driven it". We both looked puzzled as fook to why u would have a 500bhp car and not drive it. To this day I can't understand it lol. It's like the guy with that rs200 and the rs1700t, when he drives the 200 on and off the lorry it smokes like fuck cause it's never been used. What a bloody waste

I found Rainx was ok at night without wipers on, but not so good in daylight, also yes it did smear like hell if you actually did put the wipers on,
but it was quite a few years ago i used it, back when it came in the pink Dildo looking applicator with a sponge end so it may have improved since,

I would just use the good ol wipers lol, water wont damage the screen or the rubbers.

I do not understand these people who modify cars to a high spec BHP and never drive it, I can see how a standard car for concourse might do it but why tune it up if it is never going to get driven,

All in my opinion of course but these cars are built to drive them and hard so enjoy them. It also cant be good for them not driving anywhere either

And that's why I don't use rain-x, as soon as you NEED to put the wipers on your screwed as it will smear and nothing will get it off, just have to wait until it clears itself.

Use some decent aero flat blades, brilliant they are

Rain X is fine, but you need to apply it very, very thinly. Too much and it will smear, but otherwise you won't have a problem.

BM08, nothing but water in your washer bottle is a bad idea due to bacteria build up and legionnaires disease lol.

What do these sad people do when they take their cars for an MOT? Ask the guy not to test the wipers or stand there shitting themselves in case he damages the screen or rubbers !!!

They won't be using the wipers because scratches can be inflected into the glass from the wiper blades.

Yeah I get this at work sometimes when I'm moting people's cars, u get a list of dos and donts and they want to drive the car in and out onto the ramp etc etc, I just tell them if u don't trust me with it u better take it to someone u do trust. Plus the ones that are permanant 4wd they don't want u to take it out for the decelerometer brake test. Aborted test at that point lol

Wondered what all the fuss was about.

I was doing a job once, had my Transit. Bloke who's car I was working on insisted on cleaning my windscreen and putting rain X on for me. Absolute pain in the arse, put the wipers on and it'd smear like the wipers were fucked (and I always run a new wiper).

I use the carlack kit in my windscreen.
You have to make sure the windscreen is 100% clean and regularly clean the wipers or it does start to smear.
It's great doing 70mph in light rain as the water slides right off!

The Gtechniq G1 stuff is really good but a bit of an arse to apply. Does mean you can drive without wipers though.

Weird lot those RS owners... if they're that concerned, just put water and a bit of QD in there too
