Default 1.8 MK2 Mondeo

I am thinking of having a butchers at the motor described above which is a one owner X reg Mondy with FFSH and only 64k miles on the clock.

Would it make a good reliable daily driver?

Cheers all

Never had any issues with my 99 mondeo 2.0. And that used to get a kicking daily.
I even looked after a.load of lads with them as taxis and the only thing they needed was wishbones and servicing.

They drive well and are mechanically very strong and everything is available very cheaply. Biggest issue for them now is rust, but get a good one and you'll be fine. They're good for starship miles!

Aside from the manifold gasket issue mine was faultless for the 10/12 months I owned it. It got its arse kicked everyday. I owned a 2.0 and I'd have the v6 again in a heartbeat. Horses for courses, v6 is naturally juicy, on a run economy was similar.

Would have cost me more than the car was worth to fix the manifold gasket and it was up for sale anyway, I got sick of experts claiming it was the head gasket so I scrapped it. I'm not so desperate for a few hundred quid that I'll put up with all the grief, wasn't the best point in my life either to worry about cars. Sold the saleable stuff, cat back and induction kit.
Loved it, was tidy but 4k would be mad money, you must really like it! Mine had a bit spent on it before I got it.

The one you asked about in the thread above a few weeks back?? Have you haggled about half the price off, because its not remotely worth four figures... IMO.

Cheers,
Grant

Evening all.

Thanks for all the help and advice. RS Grant - it is the same Money and if I view it I'm sure the chap will take an offer on it if I take cash!!

It might sound a mad amount to some but I would rather pay a bit extra for a car with low miles and full Ford history with one owner that is in lovely condition. Even in it only lasted two or three years it would be cheap motoring.

Can someone post a link to a decent Mondeo for half the Ł1495.00 for the one I'm on about so I can have a butchers.

Thanks again y'all

Doesn't sound mad paying a wee bit extra to secure a better car, but paying nearly double isn't quite such a sound idea. Here are a few other MK2s that I found within 100 miles of Essex, using a maximum budget of Ł750:

...worth mentioning that there are loads of MK3 Mondeos available for the same money and they're a better car IMO.

Cheers,
Grant

I'll echo RS Grant. I've just changed from a Mk2 2.0l Ghia X Mondeo into a Mk3 Mondeo and the difference in general quality of the car is night and day! You can pick up really good Mk3's for peanuts these days as well.

That said, if you have your heart set on a Mk2 you could buy my Ghia X (needs windscreen and a pair of lower arms for the MoT) for Ł250 and still end up quids in once you've given it the TLC it deserves.

Good point well made RS Grant! And thanks for posting those adverts.

The thing is (and this is going to sound snobby and I really don't mean it to!) The Mondy I have found is at a quality dealer close to me and would come with a 3 month warranty. I am actually going backwards in car buying terms if i go for this Mondy as at the mo my Suzuki is a 2010 and I haven't had an older car with 64k miles since I passed my driving test 19 years ago. I can go and look at cars and spot the usual things to look out for but I would be no good at spotting things wrong with the engine etc unless it was making a terrible noise etc! At least with a car from a dealer I would have some come back should anything go wrong.

I am going backwards in car because firstly I have my car on finance and when the novelty of having a new car has worn off, you are still paying for a car that's just ' a car'! Plus as hard as you try to keep a car looking nice and in good nick, it is impossible because of other people in car parks etc. So I love the idea of being finance free and driving around in a motor for a little more than banger money!!

Plus I am a Ford man at heart and the vast majority of the cars I have owned have been Ford and they just feel 'right' if you know what I mean!!

Thanks everyone for your help and I won't be able to see the Mondy until at least Thursday as the dealer is away on holiday!!

Its a SX4 saloon. The saloon is quite rare but I picked it over the hatchback as the hatchback has a tiny boot.

It honestly drives as well as a Focus or a Mondeo and it currently shows 43.5 mpg around town which is great for a 1.6 petrol!!
