If it happened in Finland then it's no joke at all.

Was it not court fines that were going up 300% or something like that as opposed to speeding by joe blogs on an FPN?

In some countries the fine is worked out by the amount you earn,so if you are a rich banker or CEO of a large company etc. and earn a huge wage, the fine is calculated accordingly.

If this would make roads safer I might accept it but have a gut feeling it will not. Just another way of raising government income and power.

Can you guys imagine how the Petroheads felt when they brought in the Speed Limit back in 1967 . Its the way its going to be 95% of road users will want it to stop us nutters going too fast.
Its hard on a site like this to realise most people dont give a monkeys nuts about us wanting to go that bit faster than the Law allows. We are criminals like petty thiefs etc to them & need a deterent to stop us. So glad im older & have seen better motoring days.

Is it true that when they bought the speed limit in it wasn't meant to be permanent? I have been told by a reliable source that it wasn't too difficult to leave a copper back in the day (they have wised up considerably since then).

All they are doing is increasing the maximum penalty possible. The fine you receive in court will still be decided in the same way. Max fine for motorway speeding is £2500 yet my fine was £425.

Take it that was for speeding, so what would you have to do to get fined 2500?drive the wrong way at 200mph? etc

The fines are still income based so unless youre rich you wont get the max fine.

Thats why these joyriding scum who deserve to be dead, all get silly £200 fines for ramraiding 6 cops cars off the road in a 2 hour police chase and a ban on thier non-existant license

Even if they tried to make them pay the fine, the law only allows doley scum to have £5 a week taken from thier benefits.

Yet you and i do the same and we'd probably get a custodial sentance or lots of community service etc to "set an example" and a high fine because we work for a living.

The cynic in me says they dont punnish the scum because theres little point yet they hit ordinary folk harder to discourage us from turning to crime.
