Clifford concept 300 alram. Big problem!!! Help
I've just bought a sapphire cosworth with one of these alarms fitted.
I have bought the car as a non runner and think I have tracked the problem down to the alarm. The previous owner had thought it may be alarm related. He couldn't get it start.
The story up to now
After connecting the battery the car started first time and ran for 20sec before it cut off, did the same the second time. I think the cut off is electrical.
Tried to do it a third time but no power to any of the dash lights or to anything operated by the ignition.
The side lights stay on permenatly.
After removing the cover of the clifford box I found this:
Now I have no idea wether the red thing that has burnt out is what is causing my probs or wether this is just the result of a problem elsewhere? There was also a small bit of metal inside the clifford casing which had broken free and may have caused the short?
OK now to my question.
How difficult would it be to remove the alarm system??? (its a Cat 1 with loads of options: Turbo timer/ windows...) Do they make it very diffficult to remove?
Or would I be best paying somebody to fix it?
Hopefully there is an alarm fitter here who can provide some useful info.
Thanks
Stew

Alarms are not really hard to be removed, just depends if its done properly or not. Follow the wires from the control unit for the clifford (Normally black wires) and join up the 2 parts of the wires they connect to. i.e. Ignition would be either red to red, yellow to yellow or black to black. This will cut the alarm out of the wiring...
If your local, we can sort it for ya

Yea mate unless u know what ur doin dont fuck about as wires are connected all over the place!!!!!!! If it keeps cuting out thou might be related to the turbo timer possibly?! Would say its blackjax but u cant get that on a 300 and would have to enter the valet code to get it to work again.
Deff get it looked at by a pro mate!!!

Well its started by just cutting out. I cann't even get it to do that now.
Seems it doesn't know what to do, and has obviously shorted out.
Fletch Cosssie,
Wish I could take up your offer but I'm up in the Midlands.
I've had a bit of experience with wirring and am very tempted to have a go. My only concern is when the alarm is fitted surely they would make it difficult to reconnect otherwise the alram wouldn't be very efficient???
Thanks

I've removed loads of Cliffords inc an Avantgaurde which was wired into every electrical system on the car Its not hard as long as you are methodical!
On your 3 rd time of starting it you said the dash lights wouldn't even come on have you checked the fuses as there is one that cuts all power to the dash!!
Is this car a moonstone saff by any chance?

The red thing is a capacitor, is that a split in it i can see?
Also just in front of the red capacitor looks like a surface mount 3-pin diode, which looks a bit burnt, if it was me id get new correct value components and put them in, but you never know what else has gone down on the board.
As said above the alarm can be cut out, just as long as you know how to link the original car loom back up.

I had the same sort of trouble last year with my alarm (concept 600) me and a pal fucked about for ages with it as no dash lights would come on or anything we bodged the car to run got it to a fitters and the found one of it's immobilisers had gone down so it locked the car down.
Best off just taking it to a shop and let them fix it at least then you still have the alarm.

It is Moonstone. I bought from down in Cornwall. Do you know about the car??
Thanks for all the comments though.
One more thing. Would the installer remove the dash to fit?

Its not the car i was thinking of as that was from round here, was recently sold and had similar probs with its Clifford!
The installer will remove the bottom half of the dash but shouldn't need to remove the top
