You can insure any car you want as the main policy holder.

The only iffy bit is trying to have 2 different policies on the same vehicle.

I was refused insurance a few years ago. My brother lent me his Orion as he had his other car. I was told I had to be the registered keeper or I had no insurable interest in it. Refused to quote unless it was transferred into my name and they wanted proof it had been done.

Can you just get added to the registered keepers insurance as a named driver or jsut drive it on your own insurance with the owners permission?

so what happens if you are lent a car for a few weeks to use?

you simply don't tell the insurance company it's someone elses car, just say that you wish to insure "x" and where it is registered and if it's going to be kept at a different address

at least this used to be the case, if things have been tightened up in the past 10 years them i stand corrected, otherwise how else would you insure a car you've just bought that's not registered to you?

They usually ask if you're the registered keeper

That comes down to the 2 policies on one car thing.

Insuring a car not registered to you should be no issue.
